Brady & Israel celebrated their art-inspired wedding at the Dr. Phillips Center, a sophisticated venue with a mix of modern-industrial elements in the heart of downtown Orlando.
When we saw their amazing images, we reached out to this amazing couple for all the details that made up their special day!
Tell us about how you chose your ceremony and reception venue.
The Dr Phillips Center was a venue that fitted our aesthetic wants (elegant and timelessly chic) and matched our desire to have an outside ceremony and inside reception. Also, we wanted a venue that was artistic and classy. The venue really blew us away with how stunning it is to look out at the balcony.
Tell us about your wedding. What was the inspiration behind our day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
While we didn’t inherently have a specific theme, we did get engaged and then immediately go to the van Gogh experience. You will see little nods to that aesthetic in the way we planned some elements of our wedding. The most obvious of these was the sunflowers used as the primary wedding flower. We also used navy blue, yellow, and light purple for our colors. Without it being in your face, we wanted different elements that were artistic, since we both are artists by profession. We had a Christian ceremony, and we wrote our own vows.
What were the personal details of the wedding that are a great reflection of you as a couple? What were some of your favorite parts of your art-inspired wedding?
There are quite a few answers to this question because we really personalized so much. Brady and I both draw for a living, so we wanted to incorporate that as a takeaway. We had some of our coworkers creating custom artwork for our guests like fashion sketches, cork drawings, and roaming cartoons. Our personal vows were particularly special for us to take in as well.
We also did a first look so we could share our first moments together on the wedding day with just us. I think it made the moment so intimate. Finally, we focus less on traditional activities (cake cutting, bouquet/garter tosses) during the reception. It allowed us to walk around and truly take in the moment with all of the guests we had present.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
With wedding decorations, we were what I would consider more minimalist. We had a space that was already so modern and beautiful. The city of Orlando and the skyscrapers were a centerpiece of the day. We did have a custom sign, made for walking into the ceremony and floral arrangements.
For the reception, we had custom geodes made for each guest that coordinated with the entrée they had chosen. We had a custom light with our names on it to line the wall against the dance floor. While we are creative people, there weren’t really many DIY elements for our wedding. Instead, we used our creativity to find local vendors that would fit well with the styling we were going for.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Celebrating our love surrounded with people we also love. Tying the knot to us was all about our love for one another. The decorations, the music, and the venue can be great, but the most important part about a wedding day is about marrying the person you love. The most special moments looking back are about the memories with our loved ones.
What was the most important lesson you learned while planning your art-inspired wedding?
Surrounding yourself with the right people will make the day so much better. Whether that be your wedding party, your vendors, or even your guests. I’d also say ditch, whatever traditions don’t feel right for you. We skipped the bouquet throwing and cake cutting for instance. By doing this, we were able to instead enjoy the reception.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
As far as wedding planning advice goes, take the process step-by-step. There are so many things that are involved in planning a wedding, and it’s so easy to get overwhelmed. My wife and I made a lot of to-do lists as we were planning. By breaking it down so simply we were able to mark things off as we had answers.
With marriage advice, the best partner makes all the difference. Communicate with one another, and make sure you’re both being seen, heard and loved.
Wedding planning can definitely test a relationship, but it’s also a really great exercise to communicate together, which is a skill you’ll use all the time in marriage.
Did you have a wedding day timeline that you created or from your planner / venue? What did it look like?
