It’s Spotlight Day! Where we introduce you to incredible Orlando wedding venues and vendors, and the stories behind their companies who help Wedding Venue Map couples have their best wedding day.
It gives us great pleasure to introduce Vanessa Negron of Sweet Miss V’s.
When people ask “what do you do”, how do you answer?
I play with food and get paid for it, I kid, I kid. When asked what I do for a living I tell people I curate edible art that is as unique as the client. With every wedding, it is my goal to create a cake and dessert bar that really brings together the client’s overall personalities. Be it a theme like Star Wars, or ethnic background with flavors from their ancestry or culture. A wedding is about two people celebrating their love and their sweets should reflect that.
What did you do before you did this?
In my former life, I was a restaurant manager for an Italian chain. I was the short lady in the kitchen with the black chef coat making sure the kitchen ran like a well-oiled machine. As the kitchen manager, I was second in command under the General Manager so my duties were extensive. I made cakes in my spare time for friends, family, and my employees. In a corporate restaurant setting you make the same dishes day in and day out, you also don’t get any holidays or weekends off. That tends to wear on a person after a while, so one day I decided to take a leap of faith and go full force into working for myself making custom cakes. The perk about making custom cakes is the cake flavor may be the same but the decor is always changing which keeps the artist in me ALIVE!
When and how did you get into the wedding industry?
To be honest I fell into the wedding industry about 6 years ago when I was asked to create a wedding cake for a close family friend. Up to that point I had only created birthday and baby shower cakes. I was up for the challenge, and upon delivering the cake at the venue, the catering company and wedding planner asked for my information. Both referred me out to their clients, as well as being tagged on guests’ Facebook posts of the wedding cake. After my clients saw photos of one wedding cake it just kind of spread like wildfire from there.
What is your favorite thing about what you do? What’s your WHY?
I was always the kid doodling in class, with their head in the clouds. I’m not made to work in a traditional office environment, I have to be working with my hands, have a purpose, and have a creative outlet. Curating custom cakes and dessert bars for my clients is so special to me, it’s an honor to be apart of someone’s most intimate celebrations, while also being able to create something that is one of a kind and unique as the love that they share. I absolutely love what I get to call “work” and enjoy working with each and every one of my clients.
What motivates you to do this every day?
Knowing that my clients could have chosen any baker or even a local grocery store to get their sweet tooth fix, but out of all the options they had they decided to choose me. And that in itself is motivation, someone had enough faith in me and my work to hire me to bring their sweet tooth dreams to life.
What is the best compliment you have received from your clients?
The best compliment I have received from my clients is when they come back to order more cake for each and every celebration. I’m not just their wedding cake designer, I’m their cake lady. Their parents, siblings, and friends come to order cakes from me and that speaks volumes to me and holds a special place in my heart.
How did you decide on the name of your company?
My godmother always called me Miss V, I don’t remember a time she ever called me by my first name. Sweet has always been an adjective people have used to describe me, even since before I was baking and it describes my products. So naturally, I combined the two and came up with Sweet Miss V’s.
What is important for clients to know about your company before they book you?
It is important for clients to know that we are a small family-owned business and not your local commercial bakery. Our clients have names, not just an order number. We bake to order, so there are no frozen cakes shipped from a corporate warehouse. We make everything from scratch, so you get exactly what you want. And most importantly we put our heart and soul into every detail, so when you hire Sweet Miss V’s you become part of our extended family.
What type of events do you specialize in?
Our main squeeze is weddings, but we also accommodate bridal showers, engagement parties, baby showers, and various celebrations.
Tell us about your favorite type of engaged couple.
My favorite type of engaged couple is the duo that keeps things light, fun, and doesn’t worry about pleasing everyone else. While they are in the planning process they keep in mind that their wedding day is just that, THEIRS, and they will incorporate what makes them happy and keep the day focused on the two of them and the love they share for one another. My favorite couples are the kind of people that you vibe with so well that you want to keep them as friends long after their special day has come and gone.
Why do couples hire you?
Couples hire me not just for the cake and desserts but also for my personality. I make the planning process as stress-free and fun as possible. I’m detailed oriented, personable, passionate about flavor, and always striving to go above and beyond for my clients. I like to think of my clients as extended family members.
What does your most popular package include?
My most popular package includes a cutting cake with an anniversary tier, chocolate covered Oreos, cake truffles, mini donuts, cookies, brownies, and dessert cups.
Tell us about some of your package options and the price range for these packages?
We offer packages that not only feed your guest count but also include the dessert bar stand rentals. We have Option 1 that feeding 20-30 guests, Option 2 feeding 40-50 guests, Option 3 feeding 60-70 guests, and Option 4 feeding 80-100 guests. Once our guest count goes above 100 we just combine Option 4 with another Option. All our packages are considered guidelines and can be customized to suit the client’s needs and taste buds. Our packages start at $300.
What are the most common questions you get asked by brides and/or grooms?
How much is a wedding cake? This is not a cookie-cutter answer, for many reasons. Pricing is based on a few different details such as serving size, design details, specialty items, flavor choices, and delivery location. Without these basic cake details, we can not nail down a price for you. This is why conducting a tasting/consultation is so important, it’s a time where you can meet your cake designer face to face and iron out all your cake and dessert details.
The best piece of advice for brides or grooms.
Don’t get tangled up in the stress of planning, keep it fun, keep it simple, keep it personalized, and don’t worry about what others tell you “you should do” for your wedding. It’s your wedding, do how you see fit, let those opinion givers plan their own wedding with all the “should dos”. This is your day, make it exactly what you want.
Tell us 3 venues you enjoy working at and why.
The Enchanting Barn- Not only is it a hidden gem off of the backcountry roads of Osteen, but the owners and staff are amazing! The owner Cyndi really cares about making your day absolutely perfect and has an attention to detail like no other. Being a southern girl myself this venue has a special place in my heart because it reminds me of home.
The Mulberry- If Joanna Gaines had a wedding venue this would be it! That perfect mix of a traditional and modern barn, with a beach town charm. This venue is a clean canvas that you can make into just about anything your heart desires. The staff and owners are as sweet as they come and more than happy to help bring your Pinterest dreams to life.
Victoria Hills Golf Club- Not your ordinary country club, Victoria Hills has stunning landscaping that makes you feel like you stepped out of Florida and into a totally different state.
