We know what happens… in the last week leading up to the wedding, you have a thousand things on your mind. We would hate for you to be getting ready and realize that you forgot something at home. We collaborated with bridal stylist Bri Marbais of The Bridal Finery to create a list of the top 13 items brides need to remember to pack for their wedding day packing list.
Throughout the wedding planning process, Brides and Grooms will quickly begin to compile essential wedding day items. With so many important details to decide and logistics to plan, keeping everything neat and organized can become challenging. The day before the wedding can be quite the whirlwind for couples but having everything ready to go for the big day is crucial. No better way to make sure you have it all packed and accounted for than by having a packing list.
Our List of the Top 13 Items Brides Need to Remember
1. Wedding Dress
Not only is the wedding dress the most no-brainer item to pack but without a doubt, the most important. You will want to make sure your dress is secured safely in a garment bag to avoid any damage or accidents. We also recommend making sure your wedding dress is hanging properly on the hanger and hung up to help relax the fabric.
Wedding Venue Map Tip: When touring venues, make sure they have a high hook in the ready room for you to hang your dress.
2. Veil
Perhaps the touch that sealed the deal when saying yes to your dress, your veil will give you the iconic bridal look on the big day. The same delicate care you provide to your wedding dress should be done for your veil. Make sure your veil is nicely folded on its hanger and in its own garment bag. Opening the back will need to be done just right to avoid any snagging of the fabric in the zipper. A quick steam on your veil is always a great idea the day of.
3. Shoes
Your wedding shoes will complete your look and certainly is one of the items brides need to remember. Many brides will wear more than one pair on wedding day – typically a pair for ceremony and then change into something more comfortable to dance the night away for the reception. If you have not walked around in your wedding shoes yet, the night before is the time to do so! Take a twirl or two to get acquainted with your shoes… we promise you won’t regret it.
Wedding Venue Map Tip: Make sure to scuff the soles of your shoes a bit to get traction. High heels traditionally can be slippery the first time you wear them.
4. Accessories
When doing your hair and makeup trial prior to the wedding, most brides will bring their accessories with them to really get an idea of how everything will come together and normally won’t be used until the wedding day. Wedding day accessories add that perfect touch to your look and should all be kept together throughout your engagement. Your accessories could include – a hairpiece, earrings, bracelet, and engagement ring.
Wedding Venue Map Tip: Pack all of these items together in a bag that can be handed to the photographer when they arrive to take pictures of your details.
5. Steamer
While a good steam the night before the wedding day is not a bad idea, the morning of your wedding is always better. Confirm with your venue at your rehearsal whether or not the getting ready space comes equipped with a steamer. We always say it’s better to be safe than sorry and bring your own steamer… Just in case! Inquire with your bridal stylist on any tips and tricks they might have to correctly steam your dress.
Wedding Venue Map Tip: Consider hiring a professional steaming company to do this for you as you might not have an extra hour or two on wedding day to do it right.
6. Undergarments
Your undergarments will give you that perfect fit you’ve been working so hard for during the alterations process. Whether it be your Spanx, seamless underwear, or fashion tape you want to make sure it’s all there ready to go. These types of items are not the easiest to source at the last minute if they mistakenly get left behind so they definitely come in as a runner-up to your wedding dress.
Wedding Venue Map Tip: This is one of the most often forgotten but important items brides need to remember to bring for their wedding day.
7. Getting ready robe/attire
With so many photos and memories being captured while getting ready, comfortable yet cute is the approach to take for your getting ready attire. The options are endless for brides when shopping for what to wear while getting ready for their special day. Some of our favorites include delicate lace robes, silk cami, and short sets or a romper in a fun color. Not only should brides make sure to pack what they are wearing but send a reminder out to the wedding party so they don’t forget theirs!
8. Perfume
Certain smells will always take you back to pivotal times in your life and the same will happen for couples on their wedding day. We find that many brides and grooms will wear something different on their wedding day than they would on a day-to-day basis. Some will go completely out of the norm and choose a scent that’s totally new and different while others will go with a scent that’s similar yet slightly different from their usual preference. We suggest packing a rollerball version for the application to avoid any possible damage to the dress but also bring your full-size bottle for important photos.
Wedding Venue Map Tip: Make it a fun week before the wedding gift to give to your fiancé. You both can purchase each other a new scent to wear on your wedding day.
9. Lipstick
After deciding on the perfect lipstick shade for the wedding day, go out and buy it! Your hair and makeup team will work their magic but lipstick will only last so long throughout the day. Many artists will leave a makeup touch-up kit behind for their brides but it’s best to always have your lipstick handy to keep the color perfect for photos.
10. Wedding Bands
The wedding bands will be needed to officially seal the deal during the ceremony and should not be overlooked when packing. Couples should appoint their most trusted and responsible members of their wedding party to keep the bands safe leading up to the ceremony. We also recommend having the wedding bands cleaned right before the wedding so they shine their best.
11. Your Wedding Day Timeline
When it comes to your wedding day, timing is everything! We highly recommend having a few copies of your wedding day timeline printed out and available for anyone who might need one. Included in your timeline should be the contact info for each wedding pro that will be part of making your wedding dreams come to life.
12. Reception Dress
We find that brides are embracing their personal style when changing into a second look for their wedding. Whether it be a jumpsuit, removable skirt, slip dress, or mini – we love when brides have the chance to totally transform their look from what they wore down the aisle.
You will want to make sure that your second ensemble has everything you will need from the shoes to the accessories or even a possible hair change!
13. Personal Items
Before the ceremony starts, photographers a lot of the time love to capture the prettiest detail shots using couples’ personal wedding day items. You don’t want to forget things like your vow book, ring box, or invitation suite.
We recommend coordinating with your florist for loose florals as well which enhance these timeless photos. We also encourage our brides to keep any extra applique or fabric from their dress to include in the photos.
All of the items that brides need to remember above will ensure a smooth, relaxing, and incredible wedding day!
