It’s Spotlight Day, where we introduce you to incredible Orlando wedding vendors and share the stories behind these companies who help Wedding Venue Map couples have their best wedding day.
Hiring the right wedding vendors is so important on your wedding day. The photographer captures all of the special moments of your day.
It gives us great pleasure to introduce this week’s vendor spotlight, Josie Brooks of Josie Brooks Photography.
When people ask “what do you do?” how do you answer?
I am a wedding photographer!
What did you do before you did this?
I was a dental technician for 11 years. I left that career to be a full-time photographer four years ago and never looked back!
When and how did you get into the wedding industry?
I started with fashion photography, working with models and dabbling in weddings via referrals. I didn’t like it at first, since it’s very hard with lots of pressure, but about three years ago, I found a good flow and got super busy and have been in love ever since.
What is your favorite thing about what you do? What’s your WHY?
I love LOVE to tell a couple’s story. When I shoot, I shoot FOR my couples. I know them and what makes them tick and customize their day around that. I may selfishly want to shoot more portraits after the ceremony FOR ME, but this day is for my couple and I want to let them go to a cocktail hour if that is what they want! I am there for them, to make them happy and deliver their day back to them with a full story.
What motivates you to do this every day?
I love my couples and when they work with me, we become friends. I am not just another vendor in a “just-get-it-done” flow. What motivates me is the passion to create, the passion for love, and the passion for showing my couples’ love.
What is the best compliment you’ve received from your clients?
“I love how you show emotion and your photos are not just posed. I love your use of light.”
How did you decide on the name of your company?
It’s my name!
What is important for clients to know about your company before they book you?
I am very transparent, flexible, and personable.
What types of events do you specialize in?
Weddings!
Tell us about your favorite type of engaged couple.
The ones that go with the flow and don’t overthink it. If you show up nervous, that is normal, but when they throw that out the window and go with the flow of things, we get some amazing results!
Why do couples hire you?
I have heard they love the About Me section of my website, but I get so many reasons it’s hard to mention just one.
What does your most popular package include? And what is the price range?
Eight hours, second shooter, and much more! Most of my clients spend around $3000.
What is your best piece of advice for brides or grooms?
Make sure to not stress the small stuff. Let everyone you hired do that for you. Just show up and enjoy. No reason to be worrying for one second.
Name three unique venues that you enjoy working at and why
- The Acre – The staff is so accommodating, friendly, and attentive. The venue is gorgeous!
- Bella Collina – I have worked there four times and every time I find new places to shoot. It’s huge and just breathtaking!
- Arundel Estate – What a beautiful house and the staff/owner are so kind and accommodating!
What some of their previous couples had to say….
“Josie was absolutely amazing! I was surprised my sister hadn’t secured a photographer for her wedding. So last minute (the day before!) I found Josie. She was incredibly accommodating, worked with us to understand exactly what our needs were, put together a quote in record time, and was early for the shoot the next morning! She was super fun to work with and knew what she was doing to coral and manage all the stray cats in the wedding party. Her photos turned out great, and turned our special day into something for a bridal magazine. Highly recommend!” – Marly and Dustin, Orlando Temple
“Looking for a wedding photographer in a new (and BIG) city is a daunting task, and I felt an overwhelming amount of pressure to choose the “perfect” photographer. I spent countless hours online totally sucked into the world of wedding photography, and I allowed others’ comments such as “make sure you get a good photographer…” and “your photos need to be amazing, that is the only thing you will have after it is over” add to my growing anxiety. I saw Josie’s profile on Instagram and liked her photography so I messaged her half-heartedly, expecting her to be booked since my wedding date was right around the corner. She promptly responded that she was available, and I am so grateful that my big day was documented by such a talented and dedicated storyteller.
Josie not only captured beautiful moments and special details, but she sacrificed more time and energy than any photographer I’ve ever seen. She stood in the blazing hot August Orlando sun to take pictures of me and my husband while everyone else was running inside to escape the heat, smiling and encouraging us, taking us wherever we wanted to snap more photos. Josie was always such a positive re-enforcer. There were numerous times when I deviated from the timeline, asking her to take me and my husband outside for more photos or requesting that she stop what she was doing to capture a specific moment, and she never questioned what I asked or wanted. The two most beautiful qualities about Josie are her unselfishness and her ability to go above and beyond for her clients. Thank you, Josie, for your wonderful work!” – Carly and Bazz, Maitland Art Center
“I can’t say enough about Josie Brooks and her photography. I was looking for something different and her ability to convey the emotions of magical moments is absolutely breathtaking. She delivers more than photographs, they are truly works of art. Working with her was effortless, she traveled to the Keys to shoot my wedding and we had a blast. So happy I chose her to capture my special day.” – Randy and Steve, Key West
