Rabbi Sanford Olshansky

Warm, welcoming wedding ceremonies for Jewish couple and interfaith couples.

About Rabbi Sanford Olshansky

I perform customized, personalized wedding ceremonies for Jewish couples and interfaith couples (one Jewish and one not Jewish). Couples and their families, of all faiths, tell me consistently that my ceremony was a beautiful and meaningful part of their special day. If you choose me to officiate, I’ll want to meet with you 3 times, so I can speak about you personally and customize the ceremony, so it works for you and your families.

My ceremonies run 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the options you choose. I explain everything that is happening in the ceremony. I’m pretty flexible about what can be included or removed. I chant the Hebrew portions using modern melodies and translate everything as we go along. I have some Spanish capability and, of course, I’m fluent in Hebrew.

While most of my weddings are in the greater Orlando area, I’ve officiated throughout Central Florida, from Stuart to Ormond Beach. Venues at which I’ve officiated range from private clubs to some of Florida’s largest and finest resorts.

If you’re considering me for your officiant, we would meet first, in person or by Zoom, without obligation on your part, to find out if we’re a good fit for each other. I include some “light” counseling and am glad to participate in a rehearsal for an additional fee.

Services Offered

I provide customized, personalized wedding ceremonies, usually developed over 3 meetings, in person or by Zoom. I do some “light” pre-martial counseling and am open to after-marriage meetings. I will participate in a rehearsal for an additional fee.

A Little About Our Pricing

I offer a 20% discount to US military veterans, active-duty members of the US armed forces, US law enforcement officers (federal, state, and local), and other US first responders.

Frequently Asked Questions

How would you define your "style"?

friendly, personal, not too serious

What does the process of working with your company look like?

informal conversational meetings plus some fun and interesting “homework”

What is included in your most popular packages?

3 meetings, in person or by Zoom, and ceremony

What is a unique tip you tell your couples that is specific to your vendor category?

Be upfront in telling any officiant you’re considering what you want and don’t want.

What current trends have you seen at weddings?

Most couples do their own planning with very little parental involvement. Many couples want to do something distinctly different from what others have done. There is growing ethnic diversity within couples, in addition to different religious backgrounds. The average marriage age is starting to get younger, after peaking at about 30 a few years ago.

What advice would you give a couple who is starting the search for the perfect venue?

Look at lots of venues online. Narrow down your search. Choose one that really fits your style.

Rabbi Sanford (Sandy) Olshansky

I’m a “second career” rabbi. I was ordained in 2011 after 4 years of intensive study in both the Reform and Conservative traditions. Previously, I worked in corporate business for 35 years. From 2008 to 2013, I served as the “second rabbi” of a large synagogue in New Jersey and was also head of education there. I taught for 11 years at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando. I’m a member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, the Reform rabbinical association.

A Little About Us

What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?

In the wedding ceremony I always speak personally to the couple and about the couple. I don’t do “cookie cutter” weddings. And I never, ever use a wedding as an opportunity to give a sermon.

What's a fun or unusual fact about you or your company?

I give every wedding couple 12 index cards. Each spouse gets 6 cards that say “Remember (Spouse Name), you love me anyway!” These are a reminder, when something goes wrong, to try to look past that problem and remember why they fell in love in the first place. I also tell every couple, during the ceremony, to remember 3 magic words: “You’re right dear!”

How did you get started as a wedding pro?

It’s one of the privileges I acquired when I was ordained as a rabbi in 2011. It makes up for some of the hard things clergy of all faiths have to do: the hospital visits and the funerals. I do plenty of both.

Share a piece of advice to reduce stress in the wedding planning process.

I assign every couple to watch the old Steve Martin and Diane Keaton movie “Father of the Bride.” Things will go wrong on your wedding day or leading up to it and we will get through them.

What's your favorite wedding tradition and why?

My favorite wedding tradition is the option for the couple to make personal vows to each other in the ceremony. About half of my couples do this and most of their messages are really wonderful.

Tell us more about the couples you usually get the pleasure of working with.

Most of my couples are interfaith: one Jewish and one of some other background. I work with them creatively so the content and feeling of the ceremony will be comfortable for the couple and their families.

What are some of the best compliments you've received from your clients?

He really got to know us and our story, which he shared with our guests during the ceremony. He was open to having the ceremony the way we wanted it. He really cared about getting to know us as a couple. He did a wonderful job of combining who we are into the ceremony and personalizing it. He is a great listener, very kind and very flexible. He made us feel extremely comfortable. He took the time to get to know both of us and our families and really made us feel so special.
