Vintage Dance Company

We are a company that loves the vintage styles of dancing and early jazz and we want to share the music and the dances and make them accessible to everyone.

Our purpose is to provide an authentic jazz and swing experience and to see people not only enjoy these great dances from the past, but through the dance and musical experience, be emotionally and physically freed and feel celebrated for who they are whether they are taking lessons, dancing with their partner, watching a performance, or dancing on the social floor.

We specialize in performing and teaching many of the dance styles that developed in the early 20th Century with jazz music. These dances include Charleston, Lindy Hop, Vernacular Jazz, Shag, Blues, and Balboa, though some of our dancers know other styles as well. We perform, host dance events, teach lessons, and sometimes participate in community events that offer opportunities for dancing.

Many dance studios may know a form of these old dances or the basics, but we like to make our experiences feel authentic by bringing in the spirit and the history of the dance and keeping it in mind with everything we do.

Currently, Vintage Dance Company offers social dances with a free beginner lesson, regular dance classes, dance workshops, individual and group private lessons, and performers, teachers, and DJs for private and public events.

Services Offered

Private lessons for first dance, mother and son, father and daughter or bridal party. Group lessons for wedding party or for guests during the wedding Dance performance for weddings DJ for vintage jazz and swing music (subject to availability, does not include cost of equipment a DJ may need to rent)

Service Area

We mainly provide services in the Orlando area. For extra travel charges, we are willing to travel to other areas in the state of Florida.

Pricing

These are the packages we currently offer: A Dance for Two (for a couples dance): Option 1 - Socialite ($500 and up) Social dance focus: For the social dancer who doesn’t want to memorize a routine or has an interest in dancing beyond the first dance - Free 30 min Dance Consultation - Pick a dance and focus on getting good at that one. Social dance skills with entrance and exit. - 4 Lessons, may upgrade to more lessons for a additional charge Option 2 - Performer ($1300 and up) Choreography Focus: For the ones who want a choreography to make their first dance unique and memorable - Free 30 min Dance Consultation - 2 min choreography routine, with entrance and exit - 8 Lessons, may upgrade to more lessons for an additional charge - Basic music editing for free A Family That Dances Together… (for the whole family - bride and groom, father and daughter, mother and son) Option 1 - Socialite ($1,400 and up) Social dance focus: For the social dancer who doesn’t want to memorize a routine or has an interest in dancing beyond the first dance - Free 30 min Dance Consultation - Pick a dance and focus on getting good at that one. Social dance skills with entrance and exit - 4 Lessons per couple (3 couples), may add more lessons for an additional charge Option 2 - Performer ($1300 - 3,700) Choreography Focus: For the ones who want a choreography to make their first dance unique and memorable - Free 30 min Dance Consultation - 2 min choreography routine, with entrance and exit - 8 Lessons, may add more lessons for an additional charge - Basic music editing for free The Entertainer ($900 and up) - 30 min consultation - Professional dance performance (2 performers for 1 hour) Add additional performers or performance hours for $100 per performer or hour. Discounts apply for booking more than 4 performers or more than 3 hours for performers - Party starter (2 hours for dancing and set up) - 45 min group lesson The Party ($300 and up) -30 min consultation - 45 min group lesson at wedding (for 1 instructor) - Add 2nd instructor for additional $100 - Party starter (2 hrs for dancing and set up) We're also happy to put together a custom package for you if you want to mix and match any of the options listed above . Extra charges will apply to events taking place more than 50 miles away from Orlando.

About

What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?

First of all, though we will certainly teach you footwork and moves, we believe dancing is first and foremost about bringing your own authentic self and just having fun moving to a rhythm. It really is as simple as that! We want you to shine with your unique expression! While teaching dance, we don't get overly strict and technical on the how-tos but rather, on feeling the music, moving to the music, and creating your own style of dance within the structure of swing. That's how the original dancers did it! They learned from each other but each one developed their own style and their own moves. This is the spirit of the dances we teach. We are also passionate about the history behind jazz-era swing dances and like to keep our dance experience authentic. When we perform, we bring the authentic 20's 30's and 40's to you through our costumes and dance styles. When we teach, we don't just teach you how to do the moves, we bring in the history and the spirit of the dance because it is very important to us. We like to bring the jazz and swing era to life, not just create a fun vintage-like experience. We do our research on the history behind the dances we bring, the music we play, and the clothes we wear. We have also had the incredible privilege of performing at the Mexican Consulate in Orlando for a celebration of Mexican-American relations and we have performed with the Orlando Big Band at the Steinmetz Hall in the Dr. Phillips Center. Lastly, we believe in helping others. 10% of any profit our company makes goes towards helping to save victims of the child sex trade, and sometimes to the poor.

What's a fun or unusual fact about you or your company?

We are a very diverse group of people with diverse backgrounds, ranging from scientists and engineers, to circus performers, artists and musicians, to dads and moms! We all have a passion for the dances of the 1920s - 1940s, and love to do our research on the history of the dances in that era.

How did you get started as a wedding pro?

Vintage Dance Company began by teaching group lessons and hosting social dance events. We continued to grow the business to begin offering performances and other services for special events after Amye was invited to teach a swing lesson for a wedding in her hometown.

Share a piece of advice to reduce stress in the wedding planning process.

In the end, you want your wedding day to be one of good memories. Don't get too stressed about all the little details ending up exactly how you want them. They are great, but ultimately, people are going to remember the big picture and how you looked on your wedding day. So relax a little and have fun.

What's your favorite wedding tradition and why?

Food is a big one for me, but so is dancing, but it wasn't always that way. I used to not dance at weddings because I didn't think I knew how to move and I was too self-conscious. As I began to learn dance steps, that began to change and once I really understood that dancing is less about the steps and more about playing while moving to a groove or feel, I found I no longer had an excuse to not dance, no matter what was playing.
