Frequently Asked Questions

How would you define your "style"?

My photography style is a blend of classic, candid, and natural elements, tailored to capture the unique essence of each couple. I am patient and understanding, taking the time to connect with you and ensure you feel at ease in front of the camera. I’m go-with-the-flow, adapting seamlessly to the energy and rhythm of your day, whether it’s a spontaneous moment or a carefully planned shot. I like to study your personality to determine how to shoot, recognizing that not all couples fit the same style due to their unique personalities. This means I might lean into vibrant, joyful captures for an outgoing couple or craft more dramatic, romantic images for those with a quieter intensity. Reviews often highlight my ability to catch intricate details and genuine emotions, delivering timeless photos that tell your story—whether through a light and airy look or a high-drama composition—always personalized to reflect who you are.

What does the process of working with your company look like?

I’d start by getting to know your unique vibe as a couple, keeping things calm and stress-free. Adapting to your style—playful or sentimental—I’d capture candid moments like glances or laughs and guide posed shots with ease, focusing on details like hand-holding. Whether bright and airy or moody, your photos will feel timeless, authentic, and truly you.

What is included in your most popular packages?

Engagement session: A relaxed shoot at your chosen spot, capturing your unique vibe with edited, high-res images. Two photographers: Lead shooter plus a second pro for full wedding coverage, from prep to final dance. Thousands of photos: High-res mix of candids, posed shots, and details, preserving every emotion. Wedding album: Premium 30-40 page album, custom-designed with your best moments, bound in leather or linen. Private gallery: Password-protected online gallery for viewing, downloading, and sharing photos, accessible for one year.

What is a unique tip you tell your couples that is specific to your vendor category?

As the owner of Sona Photography, I tell couples to share a private moment before the ceremony—like a quick glance or note exchange without seeing each other. It calms nerves and gives me a chance to capture raw, candid emotion that feels uniquely theirs, setting the tone for authentic photos all day.

What current trends have you seen at weddings?

I’ve observed 2025 wedding trends that complement our candid, personalized style: Intimate Moments: Couples share private vows or glances, perfect for capturing raw emotion. Vivid Minimalism: Bold colors like fuchsia meet sleek, simple decor, which we highlight in crisp edits. Cultural Blends: Diverse traditions, especially South Asian, shine through in our detail-focused shots. Unposed Vibes: Documentary-style photos are in, letting us snap natural laughter and connections. Eco-Chic: Sustainable elements like local blooms add charm, framed organically in our galleries.

What advice would you give a couple who is starting the search for the perfect venue?

As the owner of Sona Photography, I’d advise couples to start by picturing their vibe—intimate or grand, indoor elegance or outdoor charm—and let that guide their venue choice. Visit venues at the time of day you plan to wed to see how the light falls, as it impacts photos beautifully. Prioritize logistics like guest capacity and weather backups, but don’t overlook how the space feels; it should spark joy for you both. With over 20 years capturing weddings, I’ve seen the best moments unfold when couples choose a place that feels like them. Start early, trust your gut, and I’ll be there to make every corner of your venue shine in your photos!

How did you get started as a wedding pro?

I started my journey as a wedding photographer in 1998, stepping away from a corporate life that stifled my creative spirit, and embraced photography as a way to capture the emotions and connections that define our lives. Weddings, with their celebration of love and family, became my focus—perfectly aligning with my passion for preserving fleeting, once-in-a-lifetime moments and my deep appreciation for family bonds. From the beginning, I prioritized quality over quantity, limiting myself to just few weddings a month to ensure each couple receives my undivided attention and care. For me, being a wedding photographer is more than a profession—it’s a privilege to witness and immortalize the beginning of a couple’s forever.

Share a piece of advice to reduce stress in the wedding planning process.

Wedding planning can feel overwhelming, but with the right approach, you can keep stress at bay and enjoy the journey. Start by staying organized—create a detailed timeline or checklist with clear deadlines for every task, big or small, to avoid last-minute chaos. Equally important, hire vendors who know what they’re doing; read reviews, check portfolios, and choose professionals with proven expertise to ensure they’re reliable and focused on bringing your vision to life. Make sure your vendors are working for you, not the other way around, by clearly communicating your goals and fostering a collaborative relationship. Beyond vendors, communicate openly with family and your wedding party to prevent misunderstandings, and don’t hesitate to delegate tasks to trusted loved ones to lighten your load. Stay flexible—plans might shift, but adapting keeps stress from spiraling—and remember to take breaks, like a date night or quiet evening, to recharge and stay connected. With these strategies, you’ll feel confident, supported, and ready to savor your big day!

What's your favorite wedding tradition and why?

I’d say my favorite tradition is the “first look”—that magical moment when the groom sees his bride for the first time, whether it’s a private reveal or as she walks down the aisle. With over 20 years of photographing weddings, especially South Asian ones, I love capturing the raw emotion and anticipation in that unguarded glance. It’s not just a tradition; it’s a story unfolding, and freezing it in time through my lens never gets old.

Tell us more about the couples you usually get the pleasure of working with.

I typically get the pleasure of working with couples who are vibrant, fun-loving, and deeply connected to their cultural traditions—especially those celebrating South Asian or fusion weddings. They’re often a bit camera-shy at first, but they quickly warm up, trusting me to capture their authentic joy and love. These couples value professionalism and creativity, appreciating how I guide them through the process with ease, from planning timelines to posing naturally. They’re the kind who cherish candid moments—like a sunset beach shot or a quiet tear during the ceremony—and want their story told through timeless, high-quality photos that reflect their unique personalities and the emotions of their day.

What are some of the best compliments you've received from your clients?

Some of the best compliments I’ve received from clients truly warm my heart and fuel my passion. Couples have called me “the best decision” they made for their wedding, praising how I exceed expectations with stunning, candid photos that capture raw emotion and every perfect moment. They’ve raved about my professionalism, saying I make them feel comfortable despite camera shyness, and love how I seamlessly guide them through the day while scoping out the best spots for shots—like those magical beach sunset pictures. Clients also adore my quick delivery of vibrant, high-quality images, often saying they’ll cherish the memories forever and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend me to anyone!
