We love a great aerial banner proposal story, don’t you? Hear the beautiful story of Rachel & Fabian’s aerial marriage proposal story, from both perspectives, photographed by Snapshots By Gabriela.
Share with us when and how you met each other.
Fabian: I am an air traffic controller and Rachel was a flight instructor out of Sanford Airport. Since they are from out of town, Rachel and two coworkers decided to visit the air traffic facility where I work on Christmas Day in 2019.
I was working live traffic when Rachel stood behind me and I began explaining the airspace that I was working. She was very interested since she frequently flew in that airspace when instructing.
What are your favorite things to do together as a couple?
Fabian: We love to eat good food, watch movies, spend time on the beach, workout, ride bikes, and run together. We also love taking my son Roman for walks around my neighborhood.
How long were you together before getting engaged?
Fabian: We have been together for a year and a half.
Did anyone help with the aerial marriage proposal?
Fabian: My friend and coworker Natalie Foster helped me communicate with the photographer and the banner tower on the day of the proposal.

Fabian: Rachel is a pilot and will soon be working for a prominent regional airline. I work for the FAA as an air traffic controller in the Orlando Approach Control. Rachel’s career took a long pause due to the COVID pandemic but we are both really excited about her new position and our future.
Her career pause helped us form a strong bond as a couple and it also led to Roman and Rachel forming a strong, loving relationship. My son Roman, is autistic and non-verbal. He has fallen completely in love with Rachel due to her kind nature, happiness, and patience. She truly enjoys spending time with Roman and he feels the same way.
Rachel and I share many things in common. We love fitness, travel, cooking, and relaxing while watching a movie. She is a kind, sweet, beautiful person. I never thought I would meet someone like her.
All of these great qualities led to my decision to propose. I came up with the idea to have a banner tower deliver the proposal after brainstorming about a way to include the industry that we both love.
Rachel: I had no idea he was proposing! Fabian did such a good job planning every little detail. He is always spoiling me with fancy dates, so when he told me about a double date and drinks at a nice hotel and restaurant I was excited but not suspicious.
I knew that we would get married eventually, but I thought it was going to be years down the road. We had both been married before, and even though our relationship has been a dream I didn’t think it would happen for a while.
We arrived at the hotel and went up to the 18th floor where the bar was. We sat down at a nice secluded private area outside on the patio. Soon after our friends showed up and we were just relaxing and talking, enjoying the evening. Fabian was sitting where he could lookout, and I was sitting facing the hotel.
I remember Fabian saying “look at that!” I turned around and saw a tow plane flying right by the hotel. I stood up stepped closer and read the words “I love you, Rachel, will you marry me?” I was shocked. I wouldn’t have thought it was for me, but because he was the one to point out the plane I knew.
I flipped around to see him on one knee holding the most beautiful ring. I couldn’t even speak, in fact, I don’t even think I could get the word “yes” out. I was too happy. I just nodded my head and gave him the biggest hug. He had a photographer that captured the whole experience.
That is the most amazing day of my life and the most memorable moment. Fabian has been an angel in my life. He is so kind, patient, thoughtful, and romantic. He gives 200 percent in everything he does, including our relationship. I feel so whole being a part of this family. I love him and Roman so much and look forward to our future.
What was the best moment of the aerial marriage proposal?
Fabian: The best moment was watching the airplane fly by with the banner and seeing Rachel’s reaction.
Who did you tell that you were engaged first?
Fabian: We both told our parents.
Rachel: I face-timed my mom right after!
Tell us about the ring!
Fabian: The past few months I gathered information from Rachel and her jewelry preference. Rachel loves rose gold and doesn’t like showy jewelry so I decided to go with a rose gold solitaire ring with a round cut diamond.
Rachel: I was starting a new job in an industry that is predominantly male, so I had told Fabian I was getting a fake ring (It’s just easier). I had shown him pictures of what I might get and somehow from that small conversation he picked out my perfect ring. He always is listening and remembering the little things I say.
Fabian: The outpouring of support from my friends and family.
Fabian: I enjoy calling Rachel my fiancé and slowly planning our wedding. Rachel: I love looking at my ring. I always catch myself staring at it.
What are you most excited about wedding planning?
Fabian: Sharing our moment with our family.
Rachel: Picking out my dress.
If you’ve already decided, when are you getting married and what is your venue?

Why did you choose that venue?
Fabian: Most of my family lives in Florida and Rachel’s family loves visiting.
