We love a great Historic Venue 1902 proposal story, don’t you? When they shared their story and their proposal with us, we knew that we wanted to feature Darleen & Krista’s Historic Venue 1902 proposal story.
Share with us when and how you met each other.
We met in 2015 while working at Arnold Palmer Hospital in the emergency department. It was a secret to no one that there was chemistry between us, but the timing was never quite right. The stars finally aligned in early 2023 and we began the start of a beautiful, fun life together. In the time we’ve been together, we’ve traveled to four national parks and eight states. After the wedding, we’ll be celebrating our love with our first international trip together to the Amalfi Coast of Italy.
What are your favorite things to do together as a couple?
We love to travel to new places and have new experiences. We are also foodies and like to check out new restaurants or breweries. We like to go to the gym together and also play pickleball.
How long were you together before getting engaged?
Just over a year
Did anyone help with the Historic Venue 1902 proposal?
My friends, Alex and Emily Peavey, were brainstorming ideas with me in the days leading up to the proposal. Krista’s sister, Alyssa Perry, who also happens to be a very talented wedding photographer herself, helped me with the final decision of when and where to propose. She was there to video and take pictures of the whole thing.
Share your marriage proposal story…
Our proposal story is a bit unorthodox. Since Krista and I knew where we stood pretty early on in the relationship, it wasn’t hard to make the decision that we wanted to get married and have children. Krista already has two kids of her own, but we discussed plans to have more. We agreed that we wanted to start the process of having kids sooner rather than later because, for obvious reasons, that process can be difficult and may take an extensive time to be successful.
Before that though, we wanted to be married first. So around the end of 2023, we made a decision to get married in the following year. To get married in such a short time would be challenging, considering all the planning that it would involve. So we went ahead and started the planning of the actual wedding before we had a chance to get the rings in order. W
e went one day to tour a couple of venues and fell in love with the first one. We looked at availability and decided on a date right there and then, which happened to be exactly 7 months away! Everything was officially in fast-track mode. We had picked a venue, picked a date, and we weren’t even engaged yet! So needless to say, Krista knew a proposal was coming and inevitable.
A month and a half later, her sister Alyssa was in town to tour our wedding venue since she was helping with the planning. Alyssa and I had arranged for her to video me proposing in the exact spot where we would be married roughly 5 and a half months later. Even though we both already knew there was going to be a proposal to make it official, I still was as nervous as could be. When the moment came, I was involuntarily shaking and could barely get any words out.
I think I managed to ask if she wanted to be my wife. I honestly don’t even remember her saying the word yes, but I knew she must’ve when she gave me her hand. We were finally engaged!
What was the best moment of the proposal?
Krista says the best part about the proposal was the shock factor. Even though she knew I would propose at some point, she still was in shock when I actually did it. She was expecting it to be on our upcoming birthday trip (which was my original plan, but decided to change it because I figured it was too obvious). I ultimately proposed to her at our wedding venue while we were touring the grounds with her sister. I’m thankful that I was able to create the element of surprise for her by proposing at a time and place when she was least expecting it.
Who did you tell that you were engaged first?
Our families
Tell us about the ring!
Krista’s ring is 14K white gold. The stone is a pear-shaped salt and pepper diamond. I actually ordered it off Etsy from BrucejewelryStore. It came as a set with the wedding band which I think really enhances the look of it. My ring is white gold as well with black diamonds encircling the band. The designer of mine is from Madani Rings. We both absolutely love our rings!
No surprises over here.
We have enjoyed introducing each other as our fiancées.
What are you most excited about wedding planning?
Despite all of the work, we are excited for the day to come and spend it celebrating our love with people that mean the most to us.
If you’ve already decided, when are you getting married and what is your venue?
The building has a lot of character. It allows us to have an outdoor ceremony and an inside reception. For the most part, it is pretty centrally located for our family and friends who are local.

We didn’t skimp on the important things. However, we were realistic on what was a want and what was a need.
What’s your wedding style?
Elegant, timeless, classic. Our wedding will be black tie optional.
Have you selected any other vendors for your wedding?
