We love a great destination vacation proposal story, don’t you? When we heard their story, we knew that we wanted to feature Elianis’ and Michael’s Cancun Vacation marriage proposal story.

Share with us when and how you met each other.

Mike and I met through social media. We both have mutual friends so that is how he found me and ended up requesting me. We got to know each other a bit through messaging each other and finally decided to meet in person. Sparks flew as soon as we saw each other 11 years ago.

He asked to take me out to dinner, but I was so nervous and made him meet up with me and my girlfriends at a lounge. We had such a great time that night and have been in each other’s lives ever since.

What are your favorite things to do together as a couple?

As a couple, Mike and I love to eat and explore! There are a lot of things that I have done for the first time all thanks to Mike. He loves sporadic adventures with me and our son.

How long were you together before getting engaged?

Although Mike and I have known each other for 11 years now, we decided to make things serious in 2013. We were together for 8 years before he decided to pop the question. I know right … FINALLY!!!

Did anyone help with the Cancun Vacation marriage proposal?

Our proposal was very intimate. We went to Cancun for one of our friend’s weddings and he proposed on the beach the next morning.

Mike and I decided to go to our friend’s wedding which was taking place in Cancun on December 10th, 2021. I was so excited to go visit another country for the first time with him. Mike and I have a 3-year-old son together and we have never actually gone on a vacation like this before. Well, little to my knowledge, he planned to propose while we were there. Because we have been together for so long, I was always telling him how we need to finally get engaged.

Any time I would bring it up to him or his family, they kept saying how they agreed with me but kept changing the subject right away since they knew he had this planned for me. He bought a ring 2 months before he proposed. He and his family were holding onto this secret for 2 months .. YIKES! Mike even had the ring sent to his mother’s house back in New Jersey which is where we moved from in August of 2021.

The day finally came for us to pack and leave. While packing, Mike kept asking for a separate bag. He said he wanted to bring extra clothes that did not fit in our luggage. So I got it for him and he somehow snuck it into his bag without me noticing.

We finally arrived in Cancun and the next day, we were wedding ready! While celebrating at our friend’s wedding, they called the “single ladies” up for the bouquet toss. I made sure to stay right in the front and told Diamond (the bride) to throw it to me just to make a statement for Mike (haha!). Diamond said “don’t worry girl, you are getting this bouquet!” and I did!! I caught the bouquet.

Once again, little to my knowledge, this was planned by Mike. He and Diamond talked the night before and planned for her to throw the bouquet to me. I was so happy I caught it and told Mike that “I am next!”.

The next morning Mike said that we should go hang out on the beach. I got up and ready. While walking out of our hotel room, he said he forgot his wallet in the room. I waited for him outside while he went back to the room and thought to myself “how funny would it be if he was going back to get an actual ring” and laughed it off.

Little did I know, my morning/life was about to change for the better! We headed down to the beach and when we finally got there, Mike said “is that Pat and Diamond” who were the newlyweds that we went there to celebrate. I turned around to see if they were coming to meet us on the beach and when I turned back around to Mike, he was down on one knee and said “I think you’ve waited long enough. Will you marry me?”

The feeling I felt was pure EUPHORIA!

I could not believe this was FINALLY happening. I screamed and cried and screamed some more! When hugging and kissing him after saying yes, I heard and saw a couple next to us cheering us on and clapping for us. It was the second-best moment of my life. I will never forget that feeling.

It kept playing over and over in my mind for days after the proposal and the fact that I get to share our proposal story brings me back to that very same moment.

What was the best moment of the proposal?

The best moment of the proposal was that it was a surprise on the beach.

Who did you tell that you were engaged first?

The first person I told was my mom and siblings. I face-timed them right away and then I told my future mother-in-law.

Tell us about the ring!

My beauty is a round cushioned ring.  I am just so in love with it!

What have you enjoyed the most about being engaged?

What I have enjoyed the most about being engaged is sharing the joy with my son knowing that I will have the same last name as him soon.

What are you most excited about wedding planning?

The venue and dress searching! I am so excited about both.

If you’ve already decided, when are you getting married and what is your venue?

We are looking to get married next January but are still looking for a venue.

What’s your approach to your wedding budget?

Make sure that I budget where I want the most money to go to which is towards the venue and my dress.

What’s your wedding style?

I am not sure what style we are going with yet, but I love natural chic and Mike loves more of an elegant style.
