We love a great proposal story, don’t you? Vicky and Alan are friends of our founder, Shannon. When she saw they were engaged on Facebook, we knew that we wanted to feature Vicky & Alan’s Christmas morning marriage proposal story.
Share with us when and how you met each other.
We first met about 10 years ago at a mutual friend’s cookout. Alan asked our friend who I was… but once he was told I was married, he didn’t pursue meeting me. Years later, our kids did cheer and football together. We formed a friendship and then started dating a few years after that when we were both divorced.
What are your favorite things to do together as a couple?
We love the water, driving to unknown places without a plan, and being with our family and friends.
How long were you together before getting engaged?
4 1/2 amazing years
Did anyone help with the Christmas morning marriage proposal?
Nope!!! This man did it all on his own.
Share your marriage proposal story…
I knew that I didn’t want the “on one knee” or “at a restaurant” kind of proposal. This is the second marriage for both of us, and let’s be honest, I didn’t want it to be the same as the first proposal.
I wasn’t sure what he would do, and I didn’t care. All I knew is that I wanted our kids and grandbabies to be there. They are the biggest and best part of our lives. I knew it was coming, but he completely had me convinced that it would be next year sometime in 2021. This made me very sad, I mean, I’ve waited half my life for this man. But then the little turd chose Christmas Day to be the day.
He had ordered a ring snowman ornament from Etsy. He begged me not to go on Etsy, even though I told him I couldn’t see what he ordered but just to make him happy, I didn’t. He put the ring in five different boxes. I opened and opened and opened – you get the picture. Then FINALLY, the last box, when I opened it I was like “all this for an ornament?” I mean it was cute, but seriously? I accidentally popped the head open and thought I broke it!!!!!
Once I closed it, the middle opened and there was the most amazing ring. I immediately started crying and totally forgot to say I will. My two grandsons stopped playing and froze – they wanted to know why Mamaw was crying. It was the best proposal for me, for us, and for our family.
What was the best moment of the proposal?
Seeing the ring.
Who did you tell that you were engaged first?
All my VIP’s! Then, of course, Facebook and Instagram.
Tell us about the ring!
I didn’t ask him any of this. I was just so excited. I had told him the shape a while ago and that I didn’t want it too wide, I couldn’t have it make my fat fingers even fatter! 🤣
Planning the wedding.
What are you most excited about wedding planning?
Finding unique ideas.
If you’ve already decided, when are you getting married and what is your venue?
We are getting married in May 2022 at the Hidden Barn.
Why did you choose that venue?
We were looking for something not too far away from friends and family that included a lot in the package price.
150+
I really enjoy the rustic style.
Congratulations Vicky & Alan on your Christmas morning marriage proposal!
