How to add live entertainment at your wedding
The number one thing that your guests will remember is their experience at your wedding.
The flowers, while beautiful, are often forgotten and sometimes the cake doesn’t get enjoyed because your guests are too busy dancing. Entertainment at your wedding is as vital to the overall experience as the venue or the food. It creates memorable moments that will leave your guests with wonderful memories.
The first thing to consider is the mood you want the wedding entertainment to set.
Do you want to express the romance of your relationship with a dramatic song as you walk down the aisle? Or are you looking for something fun and exciting for your guests during cocktail hour? Maybe you want to create the most talked-about party of the year?
The range of entertainment and talent available in the Central Florida area is huge! Performers create each and every experience specifically to the couple’s request.
Wedding Venue Map interviewed local entertainment management company P.S. I Love You Productions to find out more ways to include live acts on your special day:
When is the best time to include live entertainment at a wedding?
Cocktail hour is the most common request. Couples are looking to offer something to do more than just food and drinks and standing around.
What would you recommend to entertain during cocktail hour?
A magician could walk from group to group, keeping people entertained to make the time go by quicker. It helps the guests forget how long photos are actually taking.
Another fun idea is to offer a variety of casino games that help immerse people in fun, activity, and competition.
Something for your guests to take photos with is a memory they will take with them. Live animals are always a hit. For example, burros decked out in your wedding colors that can offer them drinks from their satchels. Living topiary statues are a one-of-a-kind addition to any wedding.
How can couples incorporate live music into their wedding day?
There are so many unique options for musical entertainment like trumpets, saxophones, vocalists, boy bands, hip hop bands and yes…even country. These groups can create musical wonders that will help you crack a smile or bring a tear to your eye.
At my wedding, I had my favorite song performed on a saxophone and sung by two of my favorite vocalists. I walked down the aisle feeling the drama that the original song created for me many years ago. It was a moment I’ll never forget.
Even several years later, I have gone back to the artists and have them record this music for personal videos and music I like to listen to again and again.
Are there any other ways to incorporate entertainment into a wedding?
Transitioning into reception rooms can sometimes be the most difficult because they are either enjoying the company and atmosphere or lingering to feast on the food and beverage during the pre-reception.
Make that transition easier using entertainment that can move people from point A to point B. It causes a stir that says, “Come see us and what else we have in store for you.” Leading the party from one space to another with entertainment is more memorable than a microphone announcement. And your venue will surely appreciate the assistance in transitioning.
How can live entertainment make a difference at the reception?
In the past few years, we have booked entertainment like belly dancers to assist with getting everyone on the dance floor and the dancing underway. Have you ever experienced a hora loca? Crazy light shows and stilt performers make this crazy hour over the top!
What is the most unique entertainment P.S. I Love You Productions has provided for a wedding?
There was a really special performance a few weeks back at a 30th vow renewal where the bride and groom were able to see their wedding dance turned into a performance art piece. I feel that is the level of service we provide!
This bride had been in love with this particular dancer’s artistry for years, and those dancers were flattered when asked to provide this special service. It not only touched the couple but rocked their guests to their emotional cores (not a dry eye in the house). And something very special the bride and groom will be able to share for years to come as it was captured on video and of course in their photography.
What kind of entertainment do you suggest having at the rehearsal dinner?
Rehearsal dinners are a special beast, as you want everyone to get to know one another before the big day follows, but you always want them to enjoy themselves, and most often you are accommodating age groups from very young, to sometimes grands and great-grands.
Our best recommendations for these types of events are musical numbers that can blend into the ambiance but also draw attention to themselves when requested, like saxophones, guitars, or harps. They can do classical music or rock out to Nine Inch Nails.
Another fun thing might be a behind-the-scenes caricature artist that creates art while the event is going on. Capturing a grandfather holding his grandchild for the first time, or a mom giving the bride to be something old, borrowed, or blue. You can then turn these works of art into décor for a new home or give as post-wedding “thank you” gifts.
Chocolate is always another fun attribute to any event… And chocolatiers are on-hand in our P.S. I Love You Productions repertoire!!! Could you imagine seeing your venue in CHOCOLATE? And digging in before the big day? Or let each part of your family take home a piece? TOO FUN!
