It’s Spotlight Tuesday, where we introduce you to incredible Orlando wedding vendors and share the stories behind these companies who help Wedding Venue Map couples have their best wedding day.
Hiring the right wedding vendor is so important on your wedding day. The florist brings in all the beautiful color and accents to your special day.
It gives us great pleasure to introduce this week’s venue spotlight, Andie Muller of Events by The Flower Studio.
When people ask “what do you do?” how do you answer?
I am a floral artist. I help your dream wedding and vision come to life.
What did you do before you did this?
My college degree is in Math and Physics. I was a high school teacher in Brazil.
When and how did you get into the wedding industry?
A friend of mine called me one day back in 1993 and asked me “Hey, do you want to buy half of the flower shop?” Me: “Sure.” It has been 26 years so far.
How did your work evolve to get you to where you are today?
Being an immigrant, I had to relearn the way to arrange flowers together…the American way. (In Brazil, we follow the European line of design.) But after 3 years, I had learned all the basics.
Since 2013, when I started investing in my education, I can only say I will never stop. It is a lifestyle. If you stop, if you think you are good enough…but think twice. The next generation is coming after you.
What is your favorite thing about what you do? What’s your WHY?
My WHY is to be able to connect, talk, learn, and create exactly what the couple that is celebrating their special day have in mind. The notes, cards, text, and emails that I get saying how perfect everything was are priceless. The memories I am able to create is the main reason.
Tell us about your most memorable event so far and why it was.
I have many. Each one had something special: an elopement from a couple from Guatemala, a New Year’s Eve brunch wedding, and an Indian wedding (3 days of partying), and the wedding where the bride hugged me after the wedding just to tell me I was her favorite vendor. Every wedding has a very special moment.
What’s the best part of your job?
Seeing the reaction of my clients when they see their ideas coming to life. It is not easy for people to trust you. So I guess the trust they put on me.
What motivates you to do this every day?
Every day is a blessing. You never know about tomorrow. I always pray for a better tomorrow, because life is short and we are not here forever.
What fun fact would people be surprised to learn about you?
A lot of people that don’t know me don’t know I am 6 feet tall. And yes, I do wear heels.
What is the best compliment you’ve received from your clients?
A thank you. Text, email, card, phone call… no matter how. A thank you goes a long way.
How did you decide on the name of your company?
I want to be a flower shop, but not your grandma’s flower shop. I want to be a studio but also have a retail space. And I want people to know I am specialized in events (weddings, corporate, parties). There is where Events by The Flower Studio was created.
What is important for clients to know about your company before they book you?
My flexibility. And no minimum. I can guide you and educate you towards what you want to spend versus the expectations. Every item has a price tag, and no, we can’t make similar for half of the price. Half of the price will be half of the flowers.
What is the most unique service/product you offer?
The Collections – a perfect start for the personal flowers for any size/budget wedding. From there, we can customize.
What types of events do you specialize in?
Weddings, corporate, grand openings, holiday parties. Anything really to do with flowers.
What makes your business stand out from others in your category?
Investing in my education to be the best as I can for my clientele. Always.
Tell us about your favorite type of engaged couple.
The one that LOVES flowers and makes flowers a priority.
Why do couples hire you?
It may be my accent…just kidding! I had one bride once tell me that I was her #9 florist. I asked her, “why 9?” Her answer: “I guess I had to find you.” Explaining, educating, showing where your money is going, answering all the possible questions. A combination of all.
What does your most popular package include? Tell us briefly about some of your package options. What is the price range for these packages?
Usually personal flowers (couple, attendees, parents/grandparents). We have several collections—anywhere between $200-$500 for personal flowers and the Deluxe Collections from $700-$900+ and includes 10 simple yet elegant centerpieces. The average price for a wedding is $2.5-$3K.
Why do you think your business is successful?
Again, it is a combination of all the above. Making sure you are there, making sure they can count on you is the “big secret”.
The Flower Studio shares some helpful information for engaged couples…..
What are the most common questions you get asked by brides and/or grooms?
What flowers are you using? My answer: I sell color, not specific flowers. Yes, we can name them and make a list, but what is more important for me is making sure you won’t see a flower that you dislike, for example, lilies. If you dislike lilies, I don’t want you to see it at all.
What do you think are the biggest misconceptions that people have about your vendor category?
Price. Just because you saw it online doesn’t mean it won’t cost anything to put together. We do charge labor, delivery, setup, breakdown, and anything in between. No, won’t charge you for a consultation. Consultations are always complimentary.
Name three unique venues that you enjoy working at and why.
Mission Inn – location (beautiful lake county), property amenities, the staff is always ready to help.
Lake Mary Event Center – always ready to help us, distance from our studio (15 minutes), rotunda ceremony area. A must.
Westin – Lake Mary – modern/contemporary yet elegant feeling, not your everyday hotel ballroom, friendly staff.
What some of their previous couples had to say….
“Andie is amazing!!!! Not only was working with her a pleasure, her work is beautiful. I found her from a recommendation by my wedding coordinator and wasn’t really sure what to look for in a florist. I am so glad I went with her!!! She met with me a few times and worked with me over email as well to get my vision for my wedding flowers. I think the key is to give her a general idea and let her run with that. The arrangements she created for my wedding were simply breathtaking. I seriously can’t even count the number of compliments we got on them. They were so unique and creative, not your average bouquet of roses (not that I don’t love roses!!!). The morning of my wedding she texted me pictures of my bouquet to make sure I loved it. She even stayed at the venue until I was walking in so she could see me on my special day. Not only did I have amazing wedding flowers, I also have a new friend and a new local florist. We love The Flower Studio and I know you will too!!! Thanks for making our special day so memorable.” – Sabrina Pipkin Rodriguez , Ceviche Downtown Orlando Wedding.
“Andie was fantastic! I showed her the bouquet I fell in love with on Pinterest and she recreated my dream bouquet. She worked with all the items that I provided (candy bowl centerpieces and made my LEGO boutonnières) and added flowers perfectly in the terrariums I made. Her questionnaire really made things so much easier in trying to figure out what we were looking for and answered all our questions. She was great and I would work with her again! Definitely recommend.” – Jenn Nifer, Cloak and Blaster, Orlando
“We chose The Flower Studio for our wedding flowers and we are so glad we did! Andie was so wonderful to work with and so passionate about her job. She created the most beautiful floral arrangements and greenery for our ceremony and reception. We hired her for delivery and set up of the flowers for the ceremony, however, she went above and beyond. She stayed until after the ceremony and pictures to ensure the garland and flowers from the ceremony were properly transferred to the reception. My mother-in-law also used The Flower Studio for rehearsal dinner greenery and Andie gave her so many great decoration suggestions. You will be in great hands if you choose Andie and The Flower Studio!” – Danielle, Dubsdread Country Club, Winter Park
