Did you know the wedding cake is the second most photographed thing at your wedding?
Wedding Venue Map connected with Central Florida wedding cake specialist, Cake Designers, to find out why it is so important to trust your wedding cake to an experienced wedding cake designer!
When should I order my wedding cake?
Most cake decorators are limited to how many wedding cakes they can deliver in a day. Some couples book their wedding cakes with us up to a year out from their wedding date. Once you have decided on your cake designer, get that contract signed and the retainer for your cake paid to hold your spot.
Why do wedding cakes seem expensive?
Wedding cakes are works of art and take many hours to create. Even a basic 100-serving wedding cake with very little decorating can take 12 hours to complete. A wedding cake with a lot of detail will take longer to create. It’s more than just the cost of sugar, flour, and eggs. Remember that this is the cake decorator’s job and they have to bake, decorate, and deliver your cake in perfect (and delicious) condition.
Consider the time and effort of learning the techniques to design your perfect cake. It takes a cake designer with years of experience to achieve smooth buttercream icing, flat tops, straight sides, level tiers, and attention to detail. Don’t trust something so important to a beginner. Remember, “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.”
How much should couples budget for their wedding cake?
Wedding cakes are usually priced by the number of servings. With that said, have you been to a nice sit-down restaurant lately? Maybe that local Italian chain restaurant? They have a chocolate cake that they received in the restaurant frozen. They cut, plate, and drizzle chocolate and caramel sauce over it and charge you $7.00 for that serving of cake. That serving is approximately the same size as a serving of wedding cake. If you needed 100 servings that would be $700.00!!! Our wedding cakes at Cake Designers are made fresh for your wedding (never frozen).
Prices vary according to the complexity of the design and the type of icing used to achieve it. Pricing ranges from $5.00 to $9.95 per serving. A cake with a lot of detail takes more hours to complete so it will cost more than making a cake with just buttercream icing and no design. It’s much like purchasing a car: you have a base price and then all the optional upgrades for an additional charge.
What is the first step in choosing a wedding cake?
Your cake designer should offer you a consultation and taste testing appointment. At this appointment, you’ll usually design your wedding cake and choose the cake and filling flavors. When you meet with us at Cake Designers, you’ll also receive a quote. We will help you custom design your wedding cake. This way, it isn’t exactly the same as the one from Pinterest. Also, we can help you design to stay within your budget.
Will having a fake cake save money?
It takes the same amount of time to decorate a fake cake as it does a real cake. Wedding cakes are not ingredient expensive, they are labor intensive. Why would you want to pay to have a fake cake decorated to match your style and also purchase a real cake to serve your guests? Find the right cake baker that can make your wedding cake not only look fantastic but taste delicious.
Are cupcakes cheaper than a wedding cake?
Did you know it takes 1-1/2 cupcakes to equal one serving of wedding cake? So, if you are having 100 guests, you should purchase 150 cupcakes. This option is not always more cost effective if you order the proper amount.
Why do you have a contract?
Contracts protect both parties: the couple and the cake company. A contract should list the details of the cake design, flavors, fillings, and the cost as well as who is providing the cake topper and any flowers or special ornaments. Your contract will also list financial details, such as when the final payment is due and security deposits on any items to be returned to the cake designer.
Make sure your cake designer is licensed and insured.
Most event venues require vendors to provide proof of license and a COI (certificate of insurance). Make sure you ask your vendors if they meet these requirements before paying a retainer for their services.
Pick up the cake or have the cake delivered?
Some couples choose to pick the cake up to save the delivery fee. It is so important to keep in mind that if something happens and the cake gets damaged, you are on your own! You won’t have the knowledge or tools to repair it. We highly recommend delivery of wedding cakes. Having your cake designer deliver the cake is the best insurance because they go with a repair kit to take care of any damage. When the ballroom is revealed to you and your guests, the wedding cake is picture ready.
When during the reception should you do the cake cutting?
The wedding cake is the second most photographed thing at your wedding by your guests. Don’t leave it until the last thing to do at the very end of the reception. Some of your guests will have left by then and they won’t get the opportunity to enjoy the cake and celebrate with you. Do your cake cutting not too long after dinner. You paid for the cake, so give everyone a chance to taste it.
