It’s Spotlight Day, where we introduce you to Saloni Kaul of Bake A Wish and the story behind her company.
How long would you say you’ve been doing what you do today?
I have been baking for over a decade, but I started taking on weddings in 2014.
How did your work evolve to get you to where you are today?
For my first wedding cake, I was volunteered by my neighbor to make her wedding cake. I still remember being terrified of delivering the three-tier cake, and I honestly never knew I would end up where I am today.
Tell us about your most memorable event so far and why it was.
It was a few years ago. I made the wedding cake and cupcakes for an outdoor wedding in Winter Park and it started pouring! The outdoor reception area was partially covered and the couple was getting married out in the open as I was setting up. Everyone was drenched, and the bride and groom were laughing and dancing in the rain.
What motivates you to do this every day?
I absolutely LOVE weddings! New beginnings are so special and I have made some awesome friends along the way.
What fun-fact would people be surprised to learn about you?
Even though I love to bake, I don’t actually like eating sweets!
What is the most unique service/product you offer?
I do not bake your cake more than 48-60 hours before the event, and no cake is EVER frozen.
Use 3 words to describe your business.
Sweet, honest and affordable
What makes your business stand out from others in your category?
I only take on a limited number of orders each week, and each wedding cake is made and delivered/set-up personally by me. Before you bite into your wedding cake, I am the only person who has touched it!
Why do you think your business is successful?
I have a small home-based business so quality is never compromised.
The best piece of advice for brides or grooms.
Get a wedding planner! It is WORTH it and you deserve it!
What do you think are the biggest misconceptions that people have about your vendor category?
That you don’t want to have any extra cake! It is always a good practice to have extra servings for guests and vendors, and if you have some leftover, the rumor is it’s great for breakfast the next day.
Tell us 3 venues you enjoying working at and why.
1. Venue 1902 – This is one of my favorites! I love the open space and how easily you can adapt it to your specific event. The ladies are truly wonderful to work with!
2. The Howey Mansion – I stumbled upon this recently and love the historic feel. The architecture is breathtaking and it would make any bride and groom feel like royalty.
3. Casa Feliz – The hues of blue at this historic venue are eye-catching. The venue is tucked away in Winter Park and the team is always friendly and smiling. A pleasure to work with!
Here is what some previous couples had to say…
“Saloni baked my dream cake for our big day in January 2020. We wanted a take on a blue and grey painted cake with tall tiers she had done previously, so Saloni worked with us to customize it for our party size. She met with us to go through our top flavors, which was SO hard to decide on because all of her flavors were delicious. We went with a chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling on some of the layers and a vanilla cake with pina colada filing on the middle layer. We loved that we could mix and match and our guests LOVED it. She delivered it right before the reception so it was fresh and decorated with florals so we didn’t have to worry about a thing. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience with her!” – Chabeli, Casa Feliz
“Bake a Wish prepared the most delicious and beautiful cake for our wedding. You get to try 3 cupcake flavors to decide which flavor you want for your cake. We chose vanilla and almond with amaretto buttercream for our 4 tier wedding cake, it was so delicious!!! The cost is very fair and they are willing to travel to the outskirts of Orlando (our wedding was in Geneva, FL) to deliver the cake. Saloni is very flexible and she gave me good advice about the design of the cake. We loved our cake so much and we are so glad we chose Bake a Wish to prepare our wedding cake! I recommend Bake a Wish to all the couples wanting an affordable, beautiful and DELICIOUS cake!” – Isabella, Danville B&B
“Bake A Wish created my daughter’s dream wedding cake, simple and elegant! It was delicious from the frosting to the filling and the texture was like your grandmother’s made-from-scratch favorite! All of our guests enjoyed the cake and we received so many compliments…not just how it looked, but also how it tasted! Thank you for a job well done and wonderful response time and communication! Highly recommend Bake A Wish!!” – Donna, Venue 1902
