Share with us when and how you met each other.

We met the summer before I left for college in 2006 through a weird mixture of mutual friends. I went away to school and came back home after graduation. We reconnected through social media and started dating off and on for a few years until I moved away again. We reconnected again in 2017 and began dating seriously. The stars aligned and a few months later I received a promotion at work that moved me back to my hometown where he still lived. After a year we moved in together and the rest is history!

What are your favorite things to do together as a couple?

We like to go out on our boat and spend afternoons on the lake.

How long were you together before getting engaged?

3 years.

Share your Costa Rica marriage proposal story…

I booked the two of us a week-long trip to Costa Rica in February. I got a great deal and thought it would be a fun adventure. We stayed in a beautiful hotel overlooking a volcano. There was a waterfall nearby that we wanted to check out. We walked down hundreds of steps to the base of the waterfall and found a viewing platform. We were taking pictures, and all of a sudden my (very romantic) future husband says “give me your hand”. He didn’t even get to ask the question before I immediately started bawling.

For some reason the very busy viewing area went completely void of people as all of this was going down, so the only picture we have of the moment is a sweaty, “we just walked down a thousand stairs” selfie where it was obvious I was ugly crying that quite suits our personalities. Mike being a smart man proposed with an $18 Amazon ring so I didn’t have to worry about losing it/getting stolen in a foreign country. The surprise continued when we arrived home and I got to see my forever ring for the first time!

Little did I know I was planning my own engagement. That added an element to the surprise that I never expected!

Who did you tell that you were engaged first?

Our parents! Who already knew but somehow managed to keep a secret.

Tell us about the ring!

The main stone is a family heirloom from Mike’s fascinating great aunt who lived to 105. The diamond is actually over 100 years old, so no pressure there! Mike took some not-so-subtle hints from me and picked out a beautiful new setting to compliment the stone.

What are you most excited about wedding planning?

The most exciting part of the wedding planning was choosing the venue and the theme. And of course the dress!

If you’ve already decided, when are you getting married and what is your venue?

Margaritaville Resort in Kissimmee, Florida

Why did you choose that venue?

I was raised on Jimmy Buffett and months before we got engaged we visited the hotel and I (half-jokingly) said: “I want to get married here!” And the venue does everything but the photographer and the DJ. It’s a one-stop-shop!
