We love a great Costa Rica proposal story, don’t you? When we saw these images, we knew that we wanted to feature Amanda & Josh’s Costa Rica waterfall marriage proposal story.
Share with us when and how you met each other.
We met 8 years ago through a mutual friend. We all got together with a group of friends to play beach volleyball and he was attracted to my amazing talent.
What are your favorite things to do together as a couple?
We are a super adventurous couple. We both enjoy riding our dirtbikes and wakeboarding in our free time. We are also Disney Annual Passholders, so we like to visit the parks together when we can. I absolutely love to travel and I will drag him along with me on many of my trips. He hates the traveling part, but always loves the adventures we get into when there.
How long were you together before getting engaged?
8 years.
Did anyone help with the Costa Rica waterfall marriage proposal?
Not really, he kind of did it on his own. I think he had some help from his 4 sisters picking out the ring but he says it was all him!
Share your marriage proposal story…
We had been planning a trip to Costa Rica for the last year and a half, we were supposed to go in 2020 but had to postpone due to Covid. Then, 2021 came along and we finally got the chance to go. We had planned a bunch of exciting activities from hikes to boat excursions and on that day we had decided to visit the La Fortuna waterfall in Arenal.
Josh woke up feeling sick. I later found out this was due to being nervous about the proposal. I wasn’t sure we were going to be able to go on the hike, but he pushed through and we were on our way. We hiked down to the waterfall basin and swam in the most beautiful, crystal clear water I have ever seen.
When we got out of the water, Josh suggested we get a picture and we asked someone who worked for the park to take a photo of us. As I was handing over my phone and setting it up for the photo, Josh got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He said a bunch of really sweet stuff leading up to that part but I was just so overwhelmed with joy I can’t even remember what he said, I just screamed yes.
What was the best moment of the proposal?
That he was able to surprise me. I completely planned our excursions on this trip so I had no idea he was planning on popping the question.
Who did you tell that you were engaged first?
My parents and best friends.
Tell us about the ring!
I LOVE my ring. It is a beautiful octagon-shaped, Leo diamond ring from Kay.
That it really does not feel different at all. We have been together so long that it almost feels like we have been married for years
Getting to call Josh my fiancé instead of my boyfriend.
What are you most excited about wedding planning?
Josh and I both have really big families so I am super excited to have everyone in the same place at the same time for once. I don’t know if we’ll ever get that opportunity again so I’m really looking forward to enjoying the quality time we will have with all of them.
If you’ve already decided, when are you getting married and what is your venue?
It really suits our personalities. It’s laid back but still elegant in its own way. We love being out on the lake and being outdoors so this really helped us bring a little piece of ourselves into our wedding location.

We’ve honestly just been planning it as we go, with no true budget in mind. I want to make sure we have everything we want for our special day, but I am also conscious to not break the bank.
What’s your wedding style?
Laid back, tropical vibes.
Have you selected any other vendors for your wedding?
