We love a unique proposal and wedding story, but this one is extra meaningful. When we read this story, we knew that we wanted to feature Amanda & Michael’s hospital room wedding.
Share with us when and how you met each other.
Michael and I met on Hinge in August 2020! We ended up going on our first date at Armature Works in Tampa!
What are your favorite things to do together as a couple?
We love traveling! In 2020 and 2021 we’ve spent a lot of time traveling around the US. We also love improving on ourselves! In 2021 we’ve decided to join the gym and work on ourselves. We continually want to grow and be better individually and as a couple!
How long were you together before getting engaged?
We were together 11 months before getting married (engagement coming, see below for more)!
Did anyone help with the hospital room wedding?
My sister, mother, and the ICU nurses at Sarasota Memorial Hospital helped and made our day special!
Share your marriage proposal and wedding story…
So our proposal story is a bit more unique than others. On July 3rd, we found out my father was diagnosed with an extremely rare terminal brain disease. The next morning we woke up, Michael and I spoke about what our end goal was with each other. We both wanted to marry each other and in the end, wanted my father there. We decided on July 4th to get married before my father passed. We decided that day to go to the mall to Zales and buy our wedding bands! Still to this day, I have my wedding band that doesn’t fit perfectly, but it’s perfect for me and reminds me daily about the importance of what you do for love!
During the week, we ended up getting our marriage license and planned for a wedding in sweatpants! In the end, it wasn’t about us, it was about my father being there. Unfortunately during that time, my father’s health declined and marriage went on the back burner. During this time, we had my sister become an ordained minister online and we were ready to get married! My sister flew in from Denver to say goodbye to my father and planned with the ICU nurses an amazing wedding!
On July 21st, we got married in the ICU with my sister as the ordained minister and my mother as our witness. It was the most special day and I feel very lucky to have had this opportunity. The ICU staff made our special day above and beyond, we even dressed up a bit and had flowers, cake, and a sparkling apple cider cheers!
We are currently planning our reception for all of our family and friends to attend in 2022. My husband is also the holder of my engagement ring and one day soon, I will have the perfect ring as well! In the end, love comes first.
What was the best moment of the wedding?
Really realizing that I have someone in my life that cares so deeply for not only me, but my family, and will be there through it all.
Who did you tell that you were engaged first?
My sister!
Tell us about the ring!
Ah! Love my ring but waiting to have it! It is a cushion cut with a cathedral band. We purchased it from a gold and diamond source. It is the perfect elegant ring for me!
The cost of a wedding! I’ve learned a lot about the wedding industry during this time.
I love the planning! For me, it is something that distracts my mind and adds joy during cloudy times.
What are you most excited about wedding planning?
Seeing the final results! All the hard work always pays off.
If you’ve already decided, when are you getting married and what is your venue?
