It’s Spotlight Day! Where we introduce you to incredible Orlando wedding venues and vendors, and the stories behind their companies who help Wedding Venue Map couples have their best wedding day.
It gives us great pleasure to introduce Jenn DeFillippis of Jennifer Nicole Photography & Films.
When people ask “what do you do”, how do you answer?
“We shoot people” *awkward stare* I have a really dry sense of humor but I think that’s what our couples enjoy about me. I’m down to make a fool of myself to get the kids (or groom) to really show their joyfulness and smile. In all seriousness, we capture the love for generations to come (that would be my serious answer!)
What did you do before you did this?
Both Mike and I still work full time at Full Sail University. This is a whole other full-time adventure for us!
When and how did you get into the wedding industry?
I entered the world of weddings about 3 years ago. I had always loved photographing but never thought I could ever make anything out of it. When we left NY and moved to FL, the move almost forced me into it. We literally packed our stuff and quit our jobs and moved across the country and I think I had that “risk-taking” quality still built up. It was something I’d always wanted to do and I already owned a full-frame camera so, with much encouragement from Mike, I just went for it, and honestly, I’ve never looked back or have been happier.
What is your favorite thing about what you do? What’s your WHY?
My why actually stems from my own experience as a bride. We chose the preferred photography studio from our venue (not in FL) and didn’t really question it much. Their work on display was amazing and they had great reviews, been in business a while so we just went for it. It turned out to be the biggest disappointment of our entire wedding. We had so many issues with them and I told myself when I started this business that I would never let anyone go through that same disappointment. So every inquiry I get, every photo I take, and every gallery I deliver, I have them in the back of my mind reminding me why I work so hard for other couples.
What is the best compliment you have received from your clients?
One of my brides on the morning of her wedding asked me why I got into this. I told her my story above and she said: “Well I’m sorry that happened to you, but thank God it did, or else I’d probably have some crappy photos from someone else huh?” I about lost it.
The guys are always harder to win over, so having the guys more excited by the end of the day is truly one of my favorite feelings.
How did you decide on the name of your company?
It’s my first and middle name – a pretty boring explanation. My last name isn’t the easiest to spell or pronounce so that was an easy decision not to include it in my business name 🙂 I wanted my brand to be really true to myself and my values and personality and using my name was an easy decision in that aspect.
What is important for clients to know about your company before they book you?
We’re definitely not the shoot and burn type of photographers. We wholeheartedly believe in the full experience and that’s what you get when you book us. We help you plan your timeline to keep you on track. We send you a 94-page bridal guide with tips to help your planning process. We have a ton of fun with engagement sessions and we made the process super easy and stress-free. I think that’s so important when you’re dealing with so many different avenues and vendors for a wedding.
What type of events do you specialize in?
Weddings mostly, but we do birthday parties, corporate events, and lifestyle photography also.
Tell us about your favorite type of engaged couple.
A couple that loooooooves getting their photo taken!
Why do couples hire you?
I think because I try to be as genuine and authentic as possible – both in-person and online. I think a lot of vendors try really hard to be something they aren’t and that shows. My couples reply back to my Instagram stories and my posts all the time just relating to me about the things that I say or talk about so I think they find us super relatable, personable, and genuinely happy to be engaged with them.
What does your most popular package include?
An engagement session, 8 hours of coverage, 2 photographers, sneak peek blog, custom bridal guide, custom timeline creation, AND US! Some companies you never know who will show up, but that’s not the case with us, it’s always myself and my husband, Mike 🙂
Tell us about some of your package options and the price range for these packages?
Our higher collections include heirloom albums. Our collections currently range from $2,600-$4,100 depending on what you need!
What are the most common questions you get asked by brides and/or grooms?
WHY should I do an engagement session? *Insert family member here* already did photos for us!
ANSWER: there is nothing more valuable than extra time with your photographer before the wedding. Yes, you’ll get pretty photos of you two BUT the experience is something you will benefit from on your wedding day. During the e-session, you’ll learn your photographer’s shooting and posing techniques and you’ll be experts by the time your wedding comes. This will also make your wedding day portraits fly by and the quicker you’re done with photos, the quicker you get to party! This is also a great time to become comfortable with them, as you will be with your photographer most than you’ll be with each other that day!
The best piece of advice for brides or grooms.
DO A FIRST LOOK. I know so many people want that aisle moment. I swear to you, you still get it!!! A first look has soooooo many benefits, so I’ll just name a few. You get to spend more time TOGETHER…whatttt!! You get an intimate moment seeing each other for the first time rather than 150 people staring at you. (Awkward) AND you get to do all your photos before you walk down the aisle, which means more party time! Those are just a few of the many benefits of a first look. I promise- this girl is a super traditional girl and I do NOT regret doing a first look at my own wedding.
Tell us venues you enjoy working at and why.
I have so many favorites, I think my most favorite is Bella Collina (I mean who doesn’t love feeling like they’re in Italy?!) but I have a thing for smaller, hidden gems so to speak. The Capen House, Celebration Gardens, and The Garden Villa are just a few examples of those.
Here is what some previous couples had to say…
“I cannot say enough wonderful things about having Jenn photograph our wedding day! Her and her husband, Mike, went above and beyond and exceeded all of our expectations by far. They were extremely organized and knew exactly what they were doing. They are very detail oriented and are great at capturing every aspect of your big day. Our wedding had to be moved inside due to inclement weather and they quickly adapted to the sudden change, which was such a relief for this slightly overwhelmed bride! We would HIGHLY recommend Jenn & will definitely be using her again!” – Emily, Crosswater Hall at Nocatee
“I’m so blessed to have found our photographers, Jenn and Mike, for so many reasons. Their work is amazing and their prices/packages were great. And they are A+ sweet as pie! Brides, find a photographer that will spend the time to listen to you and invest time in your wedding. Find someone who will truly care about making your day everything you want it to be and understand some families have unique situations. Shoutout to Jennifer Nicole Photography in Winter Springs, FL. Book with them and you can’t go wrong. Don’t just jump on the first photographer who has a cheap package. May sound like a great idea, but it will come out looking cheap and your photos are not something to gamble with.” – Brittain, Barn at Cottonwood
“Working with Jenn and Mike for our wedding was awesome! Our wedding ran smoothly with them there and we just really enjoyed working with them. I love Jenn’s photo & editing style- it’s so vibrant and just makes me happy to look at all the photos she took (over 1,000!). Please don’t hesitate to work with Jenn and Mike- you won’t regret it, we certainly didn’t!” – Alexis, The Capen House
