We love a great hometown Orlando proposal story, don’t you? We heard one of our very own wedding vendors, Michael from Steven Miller Photography, had proposed and we knew that we wanted to feature Sarah & Michael’s Kelly’s Ice Cream marriage proposal story.
Share with us when and how you met each other.
We met on the app, Hinge in August of 2019. Sarah messaged Michael first and we quickly bonded. We found that we had a couple of mutual friends in common and lived only 1 mile away from each other.
The first time we met in person, Sarah was working a second part-time retail job at the time. Michael met her on her break and we chatted and he bought her a cookie from the bakery. He then came back to see her after her shift and we went to Target. Our “official date” was later on in August at Agave Azul.
What are your favorite things to do together as a couple?
We enjoy walking to our neighborhood ice cream shop, Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream. Since half of our dating life was during COVID, we had to find local things to do. We also enjoy trying out new restaurants, movies, farmer’s markets, etc.
How long were you together before getting engaged?
We were together a year and a half before Michael proposed.
Did anyone help with your Kelly’s Ice Cream marriage proposal?
Yes! So many people! But, the businesses were Steven Miller Photography, Leu Gardens, Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream, and 1803 Pizza/Kitchen.
Share your marriage proposal story…
I could not have asked for a better proposal or future husband. Michael did such a great job planning and executing the proposal! We started out at Leu Gardens for an impromptu photoshoot. Our friends Rebecca and Steve got “free” tickets to the Gardens and wanted to go walk around for a bit.
Michael’s ask was to have a photoshoot of us in the Gardens. While taking photos, Michael went to get a prop. He pulled out a Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream container in a koozie. When he got closer, he pulled the koozie off, and on the ice cream container were the words, “Sarah, Will you marry Me?”.
It was so perfect to have Steven taking photos and Rebecca even took a video. Once the tears were all done, and I said YES, we went to Kelly’s Ice Cream, and waiting for us were some of our closest family and friends! It was such a great surprise. I am still in shock.
What was the best moment of the proposal?
The moment I saw the customized Kelly’s Ice Cream container! Which Michael later told me he designed himself 🙂
Who did you tell that you were engaged first?
First, I video chatted with my mom and she did not answer. (Because she was at Kelly’s Ice Cream waiting for us). So I called her on the phone and we talked all about it.
Tell us about the ring!
My ring is perfect! We talked about rings, and I told Michael what I liked. He did a great job. It is a sustainably sourced diamond, lab-created oval-shaped made by Brilliant Earth. It has a diamond halo around it with diamond accents on the sides.
I think the thing that most surprised me is pulling up to Kelly’s Ice Cream and seeing all of my friends and family there!
What we have enjoyed most about being engaged is the thought of starting the wedding planning process and starting our life together.
What are you most excited about wedding planning?
Picking the venue, picking the décor, color scheme, etc. Of course, we already have our planners 🙂
If you’ve already decided, when are you getting married?
We are aiming for the Spring of 2022 for our wedding.
