We love a great Orlando proposal story, don’t you? When I saw this magical proposal on social media, we knew that we wanted to feature Avery & Brady’s Magic Kingdom marriage proposal story.
Share with us when and how you met each other.
I’ve told Brady that we wouldn’t be together if it weren’t for my love of Disney. We matched on Bumble right before the pandemic hit in February 2020 while he was living in Orlando and I was visiting for the weekend to run the Disney Princess half marathon. Both of us broke our ‘rules’ on the dating app. He swore he never swiped on tourists and I normally never went on the app while traveling. I was living in NYC at the time and frequently visited to participate in the runDisney races. I was only there for the weekend and unfortunately, Brady was sick that weekend so we didn’t meet up.
I remember getting on the plane back to New York and sending him a note saying I hoped he was feeling better and figuring that would be the end of it but chose not to delete him from the app. He ended up responding a couple of days later asking how my trip back up north went. After that, we started talking every day. We were making plans to meet in-person when the pandemic hit. I was supposed to fly back to Florida in April for yet another runDisney race until it got canceled.
Between the strain of the pandemic, quarantine, and job changes, I was ready to call it quits on our texting / talking relationship and chalk it up to bad timing but he pushed to keep talking. Finally, I decided to make the drive to Florida and get an Airbnb for two weeks so I could 1) get a break from my parents whom I’d been living with for the past two months, and 2) see if this talking and texting relationship translated to in-person chemistry. At the beginning of May, I drove from Maryland to Florida and finally, we met in-person over frozen pizza at an Airbnb since everything was still closed.
What are your favorite things to do together as a couple?
We love curling up and watching movies and TV shows together (have done A LOT of that with starting a relationship during a pandemic) and going for hikes. We have a lot of fun working out together and we love going out for a great meal and good drinks. We love long road trips and have recently started golfing together which has been a lot of fun. We are so excited to be able to travel together in the future (planning a Hawaiian honeymoon!) and we love Disney days together.
How long were you together before getting engaged?
We were officially together just shy of five months before he proposed.
Did anyone help with your Magic Kingdom marriage proposal?
Brady enlisted the help of my 3-year-old niece to pull off the proposal.
Share your Magic Kingdom marriage proposal story…
Brady and I had been talking about marriage and weddings leading up to the proposal. I had always told him how important it was for my family to able to be a part of the celebration and given COVID restrictions, it had obviously been much more difficult for us to get together. My sister and her family and my parents were all finally able to come visit us in Florida in mid-December for the first time since I moved in June and I noted to Brady how we wouldn’t know when we might see them all together again. He was adamant a proposal would not be happening before the new year. I was a little upset but understood the surrounding circumstances for a delayed proposal and left it alone.
While my family was visiting, with my 3-year-old niece, we had back to back days planned at Disney. Brady knows how much I love Disney (it’s the whole reason we’re even together!) and had a lingering thought in the back of my head of how perfect a Disney proposal would be with my family all here but still he insisted nothing would happen before the new year. We spent two days at Magic Kingdom and on the second (and last) day there, we were about ready to wrap things up and leave the park. On the way out, my sister suggested we stop to take a family photo in front of the castle. After we finished, I walked over to my niece’s stroller to pack things up when I hear her call out to me to come see her.
I turned around and Brady was down on one knee with my niece standing next to him. He handed her something and said ‘Addie, see if your Auntie wants this.’ I walked over and immediately started crying when I saw the ring in her hand. I said no (out of shock) through my mask as Brady grabbed my hand. I was shaking and crying, seeing him there I knew this man would always do whatever he could to make me happy. He was making all of my dreams come true.
Neither of us can remember exactly what he said and even though it was filmed, you can’t hear him through the masks but I know it made me cry even more. He asked me to marry him and stood up to put the ring on my finger (first the wrong hand and then I was shaking so we couldn’t get it on my finger so I was just a mix of laughing and crying while he hugged me).
It really was the perfect proposal in front of the castle with the people that meant the most to me there to celebrate with us.
What was the best moment of the proposal?
That he managed to surprise me and did it at my favorite place with my favorite people.
Who did you tell that you were engaged first?
Most of my family was there with us for the proposal but called my brother and Brady’s family to share the good news.
Tell us about the ring!
It’s an oval solitaire with a gold band from Vrai. I loved that the diamonds are sustainably sourced and Brady picked out the stone and personalized it with the inscription ‘And now you know…’ on the inside from one of our favorite songs ‘When I get my hands on you’ by The New Basement Tapes.
All of it! I’m so excited for this life we have together and planning out our wedding and future has been easy with him. It’s sappy but I just love him so much that it makes me happy knowing we’re going to spend the rest of our lives together. I look at him and just smile sometimes because I’m just so happy I can’t help myself.
What are you most excited about wedding planning?
I’m an event planner so I really love everything about planning but I am so excited to see all of it come together on our wedding day.
If you’ve already decided, when are you getting married and what is your venue?
We are getting married on December 3, 2021 (12-3-21…I have a thing for dates) at Club Lake in Apopka.
Why did you choose that venue?
The moment we drove up, we fell in love. We loved everything about it. The outdoor natural feel of the ceremony space with the giant oak trees and how we would have use of the entire grounds on our wedding day. We loved the indoor / outdoor space for the reception. The entire venue is gorgeous and we knew the rainy day we walked the property we would get married there.
100
We put down a number we were comfortable with spending total and went from there. With Club Lake Plantation being an all-inclusive venue, it’s been easier to manage the budget. We are also making sure to spend money where it matters most to us like on our photographer.
What’s your wedding style?
Romantic garden. We like traditional with some modern touches. So timeless but with a twist.
Have you selected any other vendors for your wedding?
