We love a great Mexico cruise proposal story, don’t you? When they told us their travel proposal story in the unique location, we knew that we wanted to feature Casey & Matthew’s Mayan Ruins marriage proposal story.
Share with us when and how you met each other.
Matthew and I met during the holiday season of 2020, online. He was stationed in Texas with the army at the time but was visiting his mom in Melbourne for the holidays. We went on a few dates before he had to fly back to Texas to complete his contract. We dated long-distance for 6 months until he was released from the army, then took a week-long road trip to move him back to Florida. This sparked our love for travel, and was an amazing way to connect even more!
What are your favorite things to do together as a couple?
We love visiting St. Augustine, but also just love traveling in general. We love wine and going to vineyards and breweries, going to rock concerts, working out in the gym, hiking with our fur baby Corbin, and trying all sorts of foodie restaurants.
How long were you together before getting engaged?
3 years.
Share your Mayan Ruins marriage proposal story…
Matthew and I love traveling and going on new adventures, so naturally, when he suggested we go on a cruise, I was very excited, but also blissfully unaware of anything he was planning in addition to the trip. This was my first cruise ever, so I was encapsulated by that fact alone. We stopped in Costa Maya, Mexico to do an excursion exploring the Mayan Temple Ruins and a Lagoon.
It had stopped raining just before we arrived, but the stone steps were still extremely slick. He asked another patron in our tour group to take our pictures of the ruins. He took my hand and helped me climb up the stairs to the middle of the pyramid and didn’t let go. We were in the middle of taking our pictures when out of the corner of my eye, I saw him getting low to the ground.
At first, I thought he slipped on the rocks, but then I realized he was holding something in his hand. He got down on one knee and waited for my delayed realization of what was happening lol He was so nervous, that I noticed the ring box was actually upside down, but that made it so much more endearing to me. I was overwhelmed with a mix of emotions: excitement, shock, anticipation, love, admiration, and fear of falling down the steps if I made a wrong move lol He couldn’t stop smiling when I said yes and held me in the longest embrace.
As soon as he put the ring on my finger, our whole tour group erupted in applause and I saw his face turn bright red. We were shaking the entire time we climbed down the temple steps, but the exhilaration of professing our love to one another was the most magical moment.
What was the best moment of the proposal?
The best moment of the proposal was seeing just how nervous he was and how much he cared about making the moment “perfect.”He truly is the most incredible man I’ve ever met, and the fact that he cared so much about how it appeared, made it all the more special.
Who did you tell that you were engaged first?
My sister, Sa
Tell us about the ring!
The ring was purchased from Zales, and was part of a now-retired Disney Enchanted Collection. It is their “Tinkerbell” ring, and has a cushion shaped diamond in the middle with smaller diamonds surrounding it, and down the band. On the front face of the ring, there are gold stars and tiny diamonds intertwined with the metal.
Seeing how excited our friends are about the engagement. We really have the best support system ever.
Enjoying the quality time together and really mapping out what our future looks like together.
What are you most excited about wedding planning?
We are most excited to be married to one another, but also to see our vision come to life and to share it with the people we care about the most. About 90% of our guests will be coming from out of town to celebrate with us, and we can’t wait to see our favorite people all in once place.
