We love a great New Smyrna Beach proposal story, don’t you? When we heard their sweet story and the planning Adam put into it, we knew that we wanted to feature Ashley & Adam’s New Smyrna Beach marriage proposal story.
Share with us when and how you met each other.
We met in October of 2021 at The Barn in Sanford. The first time Adam saw Ashley, she had no clue who he was, and he was convinced she was out of his league. One of their mutual friends was harassing her to dance in front of everyone and rounded up all of the guys in the bar (including Adam) to watch her and a friend dance to “Man, I Feel Like A Woman!” by Shania Twain while they sat and cheered on the girls from the side of the dance floor.
A few weeks later, Ashley finally noticed him out dancing (because he was the only guy in the bar with a cowboy hat) and was shocked to find he was talking to people she knew. After he bailed out of a dance early, she worked up the courage to sarcastically comment about him not being able to finish the dance. After a few minutes of light-hearted banter, they returned to their respective friend groups.
A few slow songs later, Ashley returned and teased Adam, “What, you don’t know how to partner dance?” offering herself up as a partner if he ever needed one. Halfway through the last slow song of the night, Adam FINALLY decided he couldn’t pass up the offer and asked her to dance. As the night came to a close, everyone was saying their goodbyes, and Adam started to walk away without asking for Ashley’s phone number. She took it upon herself to demand his phone to ensure he had a way to contact her. Despite Ashely having no expectation of him actually texting her back, he texted her immediately and they haven’t stopped talking since.
After a few weeks of getting to know each other, Adam took Ashley out on a date that she requested they dress up for. After the date, they made their relationship official and the rest is history.
What are your favorite things to do together as a couple?
We love traveling to National Parks and hiking. Nashville is was one of our favorite places as well as Washington state. We love swing dancing together and listening to country music. We like boating and fishing. We like watching anything Star Wars or the show Lucifer.
How long were you together before getting engaged?
We were together just over 2 years when we got engaged

Share your marriage proposal story…
We got engaged on November 6th, 2023 at Bending Branch Ranch. As most people would agree, Ashley is often too smart for her own good, and that was very much the case when Adam was planning to propose to her. Ashley had requested that she be surprised, so Adam was determined to make that happen. He knew that even the smallest hint would give away his plan, so he kept it a secret from everyone for months and was indeed successful!
Five months earlier, Adam had reached out to some photographer friends of Ashley’s to try and plan out how to surprise her with a proposal. They decided to host a workshop for other photographers to teach them about lighting and asked Ashley to be the model. Ashley agreed, and over the next few weeks, she continuously mentioned to Adam that it would be a great idea for a proposal… little did she know. As the date got closer, Adam mentioned that he might come out to dinner with everyone after the workshop, as an excuse for him to show up and propose.
In a moment of serendipity, one of the photographers at the workshop requested that Adam come and bring his cowboy hat as a prop. This gave Adam an even better reason to be at the event, so he agreed. He agreed a little too easily if you ask Ashley. Ashley had her suspicions all through the beginning of the photos, but that had been the case about anything they did together for the last five months.
Eventually, around sunset, the photographers asked Ashley and Adam to pose facing away from each other and Ashley started thinking her suspicions might actually be right this time. If you’ve seen the video of the proposal, you’ll know that Ashley was surprised in the very best way when she finally turned around to face Adam and saw him down on one knee with a ring. She obviously said yes, and they have been happily planning the wedding since!
What was the best moment of the proposal?
The best moment was when I finally got to turn around and knew for 100% sure that we was proposing because I had been suspicious and ready for it for months!
Who did you tell that you were engaged first?
The first people we told were our parents! He called his dad and I sent a photo to my family group chat
Tell us about the ring!
He got the ring from Diamonds & Co and designed it himself. It is a round diamond with a halo and a half twist diamond band
I was surprised how often people will ask about the wedding and then assume Adam is doing nothing to help. He’s actually been a part of making all of the decisions and approving everything before it’s signed.
I love getting to plan the actual wedding now that we are actually engaged! Since I’m a wedding planner, I’ve thought about it a million times but now I actually get to make the whole thing come to life for real!
What are you most excited about wedding planning?
I’m the most excited to have my bride moment of walking down the aisle to my fiancé in my wedding dress with my dad and all of my friends and family instead of just watching my couples do it and imagining what it actually feels like. I’m most excited to get to wear a wedding dress instead of all place and getting to actually party and dance instead of having to be professional during the reception!
If you’ve already decided, when are you getting married and what is your venue?
Our wedding is June 13th, 2024 and our venue is Sterling Event Venue
Why did you choose that venue?
I picked this venue because Cinderella is my favorite princess and I wanted to be able to walk down the venue’s staircase and feel like Cinderella! And I’ve always dreamed of a barn wedding so I loved that Sterling is modern with all the amenities but still has that barn feel to it.

We started with the most important things, which is how we both look and feel and then went with the simplest options for decor and food
I would say our style is simple and traditional
