We love a great Disney World proposal story, don’t you? When we heard about the detailed Disney story, we knew that we wanted to feature Randi & David’s Star Wars marriage proposal story.
Share with us when and how you met each other.
We met in a Disney Facebook group called “Disney Single Riders”. It wasn’t a dating group, but some people used it that way. It was more for those of us who went to the parks alone and wanted to meet up with others and make new friends.
Randi never posted in the group until her birthday, where she posted the obligatory selfie that she would be at Magic Kingdom and asked if anyone wanted to meet up. David messaged her “Happy Birthday!” and we chatted a little throughout the day. Our schedules didn’t match up to meet up that day, but David asked her to dinner for that weekend and she said yes. So they met up at Morimoto’s at Disney Springs a few days later for their first date.
What are your favorite things to do together as a couple?
We are nerds at heart. We are Disney World annual pass holders, so we love going to Disney. You can find us in Batuu weekly. We also cosplay together, are foodies, and own a 3D print business together.
How long were you together before getting engaged?
4.5 years.
Did anyone help with the Star Wars marriage proposal?
Our adventure guides with Adventures by Disney helped David execute this epic proposal
Share your marriage proposal story…
David had been planning this proposal for MONTHS. He wanted to make sure it was a surprise for me. When he first booked our Adventures by Disney Backstage Magic trip, he discussed proposal ideas with our vacationista. When we checked into the trip with our adventure guides, he privately talked through the plan with them again, all without me knowing. Star Wars is our favorite fandom, so getting engaged in Batuu West, specifically in the Millennium Falcon, was a top priority for him.
On the day he was planning to propose, we were supposed to be bounding as Han & Leia, but I gave him a hard time about it because I didn’t want to wear Leia that day since we were starting at DCA and going to Avengers Campus. He was ADAMENT we wear Han & Leia and would not back down. I finally gave in and wore my Leia bound.
All morning, I dragged him on every rollercoaster I could at DCA having no idea that the ring was in his pocket and he was panicking about losing it or falling out of his pocket on a ride! We finally park hop over to Disneyland and head back towards Batuu I wanted to go to Rise of the Resistance, but he wanted to go to Smuggler’s Run.
I convinced him to go on Rise and he excused himself to the restroom first. Little did I know he was texting our guides to set the time that we would be at the Falcon. We went on Rise and then hopped over to the Falcon to take a few photos where we “ran into” our adventure guides and asked them to go on Smuggler’s Run with us.
When we got into the main room, David handed off his phone to one of our guides and asked her to take photos of us. Then he pulled me over in front of one of the main walls to take a photo. Then he yelled “Wait! I have a thermal detonator!” He got down on one knee, popped open the detonator to show the ring, and asked me “Will you be my forever co-pilot?” I was shocked and of course said yes!
What was the best moment of the proposal?
The lights in the falcon all flickered as soon as he proposed and it was an epic unplanned moment!
Who did you tell that you were engaged first?
Pretty much everyone but Randi knew this was happening! But we quickly texted our great friends as soon as it happened. Our kiddo was on a cruise with her grandparents, so we had to wait a few days to tell her.
Tell us about the ring!
It’s a James Allen single solitaire 1.5-carat ring set in platinum & white gold.
Getting used to saying fiancé instead of boyfriend!
We purposefully planned a long engagement to be able to take our time and enjoy the journey.
What are you most excited about wedding planning?
Wedding planning is a beast! But it’s fun to see your vision come together with all your vendors!
If you’ve already decided, when are you getting married and what is your venue?
We loved the look of that venue even before we got engaged. It’s beautiful on its own without a lot of decor and we love that everything can be indoors!
75-90
Prioritize the important things that mean the most and focus the budget there.
What’s your wedding style?
Nerdy chic
Have you selected any other vendors for your wedding?
