We love a great Michigan proposal story, don’t you? After learning the story of how they met and how Tyler proposed, we knew that we wanted to feature Erin & Tyler’s Traverse City marriage proposal story.
Share with us when and how you met each other.
Tyler and I actually grew up very close to each other, he went to school in the town over, however our paths never crossed! It is really crazy to think, because our towns are seriously so small. But fast forward to 25 years old, he added me on facebook, then a few days later added me on instagram (I didn’t think anything of this, but of course it was a plan he was working on, to ultimately slide into my DM’s lol).
Two words – “That’s wild”, in response to an Instagram story of me lifting heavy in the gym! He will say that I lead him on for a couple months, but I remind him I wasn’t leading him on, I was reeling him in!! We finally went on our first date after those couple months of reeling him in and like they say, the rest was history!! We both fell really hard, really fast, had the best summer of our lives, fast forward a couple years and a couple more amazing summers, and he got down on one knee with the most beautiful backdrop in Northern Michigan!
What are your favorite things to do together as a couple?
We are huge boaters!! Tyler had a boat, and that was actually what we did on our first date, and really all we do all summer long. We bought a new boat together this summer and we are so excited!
Other hobbies like trying different foods (sushi is our fav!). I love to cook for Tyler also.
We enjoy music and TV. We’ve been to quite a few concerts/shows/festivals together as well as enjoy finding shows and binging them together on cold winter weekends is our go to since we are really not big winter fans!
How long were you together before getting engaged?
It was really just perfect! I was in a new role at work and I was BEYOND stressed and in need of a getaway. We had a weekend up north at my parents cabin planned and we were supposed to go up Thursday night but work had me there super late so we agreed to go up early in the morning! Looking back that decision stressed him out but I didn’t realize.
We got there and visited with my family then we were going up to Traverse City for dinner at our favorite sushi spot Red Ginger but Tyler asked if I wanted to take a little detour and go up to this beautiful spot, for an amazing view and picture (DUH!, but didn’t think anything of it except OMG yes!) We were far more dressed up than others that were hiking up to this Picture Perfect Spot and I was just so giddy to be away for the weekend and marking yet another fun activity off with my best friend.
We got to the top and their was a photographer up there taking pictures but again I didn’t think anything of it, it was a perfect spot for a photographer to get some scenic pictures. Next thing you know Tyler turns me around and says “I didn’t just bring you up here for a picture” He dropped to his knee and I absolutely lost it! The photographer was indeed there for us and she captured every moment!!
It was by far the BEST moment of my life. We were both crying (he will claim he just had sand in his eye!) and it was just perfect!! I wanted to relish in that moment forever, but I also couldn’t wait to get down the hill and call EVERYBODY and tell them! I then found out that my parents had also invited his parents up north for the weekend!
We were all able to celebrate together and it was the most PERFECT weekend ever. I still cannot believe that that was my proposal! I didn’t think I would ever find my Tyler and he is the most perfect fiance for me, I am beyond grateful for how thoughtful he was in putting it together because it will be a moment we cherish forever!!
Just the moment where he looked at me and said “I didn’t just bring you up here for a picture” I could just see the love in his eyes and I have never felt more love than in that very moment! The picture perfect backdrop made it absolutely everything a girl could hope for and dream of!
Who did you tell that you were engaged first?
I face-timed my mom and dad first, who of course knew, then my grandmas, then some of my best friends!!
MY DREAM RING! Emerald solitaire diamond with a hidden halo on a simple diamond band! AND of course my fiance thought of everything and had our birthstones put on the inside. He had the ring custom made from Concierge Diamonds out of LA
I am so excited to see the wedding I have been dreaming of my whole life mixed with Tyler’s ideas come to life! It is honestly coming together so well and I cant wait for the big day.
If you’ve already decided, when are you getting married and what is your venue?
April 19th, 2023 at Paradise Cove Orlando.
Why did you choose that venue?
It took us 7 MONTHS to find the perfect venue!! We were not sure if we wanted to do destination, but when Tyler sent me this one, it was everything and I knew it was the one!
This was really hard. We quickly found our dream wedding was pricier than our dream budget. But we are lucky enough to have help from family as well as a great income that allowed us to pay for the wedding debt free.
