Our friends at Moonlight Dance Studio share their expertise on why wedding dance lessons will make your first dance amazing! If you’ve never danced a step in your life and the thought of just walking into a dance studio simply terrifies you, then you need to read this blog! The truth is, taking your first dance lesson can feel a little intimidating. It doesn’t have to be this way.
You meet… You fall in love… You are now engaged… You’re planning on marriage… making your dreams a reality. Learning to dance together is a great way to become one with each other, forming a solid unbreakable bond, like a fine wine only gets stronger with time.
Dancing together not only brings you closer but also takes your relationship to the next level by learning to communicate without words and trusting each other indefinitely.
Here’s our beginner’s guide that takes the mystery out of the whole process so you will know exactly what to expect when taking wedding dance lessons….
1. Make The Call
The first step, of course, is actually doing your research and making the call to find out more about wedding dance lesson options. You can only learn so much from reading websites online so make sure to pick up the phone and have a talk with your potential dance instructors.
Check out what options are available for private lessons and make sure to ask if they offer a FREE complimentary consultation. It’s important to connect with the instructors and make sure your personalities match.
PS – Moonlight Dance Studio offers a free consultation 😉
2. Wedding Dance Consultation
Prior to your first wedding dance lesson, you will have a short consultation that you should expect to be around 30 minutes. During this time, the dance instructors will get to know you as a couple. It’s also a great chance to discuss your vision in preparing for a wedding dance.
To make the most out of your first consultation, it’s best to give some thought to these things in advance:
- Are you looking for a simple dance or do you wish to make a statement with something a bit “flashier” or “outside the box”?
- Have you already got some special music in mind?
- What is the layout & size of your venue? This will affect the choreography of your dance.
- Where will you be prior to your dance & how will you enter the dance floor? For example, at a wedding, you might be seated or making an entrance to the room directly onto the dance floor!
- Are you wanting to learn basic dance patterns, including the important skills of lead & follow? Or are you wanting a fully choreographed dance to suit your style of wedding?
If you don’t have all the answers….don’t stress! We can offer suggestions based on our many years of experience working with clients for weddings of every size and style.
Wedding Venue Map Tip: If you have no idea of the type of dance, YouTube search wedding first dance for inspiration.
3. The First of Your Wedding Dance Lessons
Now it’s onto the exciting part of your dance journey!
Your first wedding dance lesson will usually be an hour long. You will start learning some very basic steps in the style of dance that best fit your music and your personalities as a couple.
This could be waltz, foxtrot, cha-cha, swing, rumba, salsa, or a number of other dances. The most important thing to remember for your first wedding dance lesson is to relax and have some fun.
The steps will be simple, regardless of your level of dance experience, so there’s absolutely nothing to worry about.
On a practical note, we recommend wearing shoes that you plan to wear for your wedding at your first dance lessons. This will help you to get used to dancing in your shoes, especially important if they are new. It will make you feel more comfortable and confident for your special day.
Wedding Venue Map Tip: Plan your wedding dance lessons to be private dates to celebrate your love as a couple.
Love is what brought you two together and the same love continues to grow in your dancing together. Dance is the unconditional love you share together and is a great way to bond with each other.
It’s a lot of fun learning something new and it’s a fantastic opportunity to create lasting memories together!
