Historic Winter Wedding | The Howey Mansion

Leah and John celebrated their winter wedding at The Howey Mansion, a beautifully restored 1920s Mediterranean Revival estate in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida,

When we saw their amazing images, we reached out to this amazing couple for all the details that made up their special day!

Tell us about how you chose your ceremony and reception venue.

I had a vision for a Mediterranean-style estate, and the Howey Mansion was the perfect fit!

Tell us about your winter wedding! What was the inspiration behind our day? Did you have a specific theme, style, or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?

We didn’t really have a theme but we kept saying a “winter garden party”.

The color palette was all over the place, but I’d say navy, baby blue, and blush were the main colors. No cultural or religious traditions.

What were the personal details of the wedding that are a great reflection of you as a couple? What were some of your favorite parts of your winter wedding?

A few months before our winter wedding, John herniated a disk in his back. We were so worried about how he would hold up with dancing that we decided to just do a really simple first dance. By the end of the night, his back was bothering him, so we decided to sit down and give it a rest.

That’s when we heard our “last song” come on from downstairs. My favorite memory is dancing alone upstairs to our last dance without anyone watching us. It was the only moment of that day that no one else got to be a part of, and even though it happened by accident, I wouldn’t change it!!

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?

All of the decor was beautiful floral from Colleen at Sweet Pea!

I was really looking forward to our first look. The most special moment was mentioned above.

What was the most important lesson you learned while planning your winter wedding?

Your wedding is for you and you only. Don’t try to appease other people!!

Go with your gut. If you have a feeling, follow it. That goes for booking vendors to planning the flow of your day. You know you and your spouse best.
